Are Christians creepy?

Yep. I didn't break any rules. I didn't curse. I didn't name call or throw insults. I simply replied to the thread: What would you ask God if you met him.

And my answer was:

God, why do you insist that your followers kill everyone that doesn't know you?

I of course sited several verses for examples - and was very quickly banned.
Interesting, I followed the rules to the letter and still got kicked out immediately, and yet those same assclowns can come on this site, break all the rules, and we will still allow them the courtesy to present their arguments for a considerable amount of time.

typical fucking christians

LOL.

They hate it when you shove their own book up their asses. The damn thing has sharp corners!

You'd have to define creepy.

"Fucked Up?" Yes.

As to the question of what happens when someone tries to tell me about their bullshit 'nicely?' I usually tell them, equally nicely, that there is no evidence that any of their bullshit ever happened. It is their reaction to that statement which then determines how the conversation proceeds.

Usually, they don't react all that well.

Truly great, minimalist lays it out, short, sweet. You can always count on him to wrap things up and use the word "bullshit" at least once. You sir are an institution. I love that last line off by itself!

So, no.

Hey that's really cool Zen Badger, I love the diversity. I think everyone should be able to just be friends with people they don't agree with because nobody really agrees 100% with anyone else anyway. People are great, no need to miss out on that. That's why I come here, to bask in the inter-faith/inter-atheist/inter-whatever love.

Ohhhhh, BURN on those bicycle people! Discriminatin' and all.

(May 5, 2011 at 9:33 am)thesummerqueen Wrote: I've said it before - one of my absolute best friends in the world is an elder, or deacon, or something, at his church. While it's true that most of those closest to me are atheist, or at least agnostic, this man and my best girlfriend still identify as Christian. I don't hold it against them. It rarely comes up with her - and she's married to a Turkish Muslim. It only comes up with him ever-so-often, and he actually listens to my point of view. We got into a debate about children receiving sex education in school and I actually changed his mind about a few things. I think the difference is that instead of saying he does things in Jesus' name, he lives as he believes Jesus would expect him to live...which I could argue with him that he'd be that way with or without the invisible friend but I doubt it would change his mind. It's not worth the friendship.
Awesome, I love it. Feelin' the love, one love, one heart, let's get together and feel alright. Wait, I think I went Bob Marley there for a second.

(May 5, 2011 at 9:33 am)thesummerqueen Wrote: Do you know who I automatically think is creepy? People who come up to me and are wearing those "power bands" or "hologram energy bands".
Oh yeah, I would just say, "Okaaay . . ." Totally concur here.

(May 5, 2011 at 9:33 am)thesummerqueen Wrote: The last time anyone tried to "nicely" tell me about the gospel, it was right after she accused me (without foundation) of having an affair with her husband...so...probably a little biased there.

Well that'll do it. I knew there would be a great story in this thread. Thanks!
I'm always amazed at how bad people are at evangelism.

(May 5, 2011 at 9:33 am)thesummerqueen Wrote: I'm confused, however, about what you mean by teaching people to be socially inappropriate.
He was just saying that evangelism classes teach people to do stuff that we would usually consider to be really socially awkward and uncomfortable. Dirty little secret about Evangelical churches, pretty much no one likes to actually try to evangelize someone.

(May 5, 2011 at 9:33 am)thesummerqueen Wrote: Also, none of my Christian friends have ever tried to convert me.

Then they're not doing their job Tongue There should have at LEAST been some yelling *sarcasm*

(May 5, 2011 at 11:02 am)Cinjin Cain Wrote: Most of them, I find, fall into one category for me - repugnant. Stupidity has a label ... WWJD.
Never liked the WWJD thing myself. If it actually resulted in people acting like Jesus then that would be cool, but it's mostly just a bracelet.

(May 5, 2011 at 11:02 am)Cinjin Cain Wrote: However, there are a few who definitely fall into the category of tolerable .... only because they understand the rules of social etiquette and know how to keep their mouths shut.
THAT'S what I was talking about with the socially awkward thing. But come on Cinjin, aren't there some of us you like better than "tolerable"? Don't sit there and tell me you don't love Mr. Chuck Norris or Justin Bieber.

(May 5, 2011 at 11:02 am)Cinjin Cain Wrote: But of course, I do run into the occassional creepy fuckin christian. Can't really put my finger on it ... but I speculate it's usually the rare combination of biblical doctrines and genuine high intelligence that sets my "alarms" off.

Oh I know exactly what you're talking about. Almost like a cult leader, surrounds himself with yes-men, takes over the church and exalts himself as the perfect example/ voice of god and tolerates no dissent. Well, pretty much a cult leader. I was raised in one of those churches and I'm still recovering from all the psychological issues. Churches like the one I was in straight up freak me out.

The same things happens to a lesser extent even with good pastors. If they feel the congregation is stressing them out to much they'll preach about evangelism, because everybody feels like they SHOULD do it, but nobody wants to. (There's actually a fair amount of case-study evidence for this phenomenon). Good catch noticing something like that, a lot of people don't see it.

So I think I heard several people say that Christians can sometimes be okay, usually more annoying than creepy, and a few people with Christian friends, awesome. I appreciate Chuck taking the clear-cut stance, we're all creepy. Guess I can go as myself for Halloween this year, since I can freak people out as-is. Tongue

As for Cinjin getting kicked out of the Christian forums for asking a super-amusing question, sorry about that. Me and some of my Christian friends were going to start a meet-up group where Christians and Atheist both just showed up to hang out and talk. We got to a point in the planning where I said, "I'm not even a little worried about the Atheists, but I'm really concerned about what the Christians might say." Everyone pretty much said, "I was thinking the same thing," so we scrapped it. So yes, I have found that this forum has been really cool to me, while you guys get kicked out of Christian ones. Atheists (and one Deist) win this round, but that's okay Christians, we'll do better next time! At least the church I go to now is totally cool with everybody.

This thread has been great, I laughed, I cried, I even raised my eyebrow a few times. Thanks guys!

Hard to talk about religion without using the word 'bullshit.' I suppose I could substitute 'horseshit' but would it really matter?

No you should definitely stay with "bullshit." It's pretty much your catchphrase.

My question to you tonight is, do you automatically think someone is creepy when they say they are a Christian, or is it just when they try to convert you? I myself am massively creeped out by the Bible Network and several real-life Christians I've met. I believe I mentioned earlier that it triggers my fight-or-flight reflex.
I know that feeling! I get it whenever a Mormon or JW comes to my door and tries to convert me. Yet I think when the Muslims finally come knocking I'll lose my head over it. This is weird, we actually have something in common that I would never had thought of until now.

And if a double decker bus crashes into to us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die...there's a Light and it never goes out.
