You may know the old saying...'good people do good things, evil people to evil things, but for good people to do evil things it takes religion.'
The way I see it, ultimately, those that seek god as the ultimate judge rely on the illusion that in the end all evil deeds will not go unpunished. Think about it, a rapist a murderer, a pedophile reaching the end of his life unblemished. This raises anxiety on people if they think into it(it does on me). If you believe hard in the ultimate justice it is easier to dispell that anxiety.
As to that saying, it is utterly false, simply because there are other factors that can make a good man do bad things, and that saying, subterfudgely implies that religion is the only thing that can. There are a whole bunch of experiments done on this subject that proves it.

You're repeating yourself Girlysprite. Which is all very well but for the part where you didn't address the counter arguments. But then if we're talking blank denial then please carry on. Seems like you are indeed a dogmatic atheist after all.

Frodo, stop it. If Difidus wants toi reply I'll continue the discussion with him. I won't have myself insulted here. I also saw that there was no solid counter-argument for the fact that in reality, the fear-effect of hell did not seem to work at all, it makes no difference.
Of course, it has been said that most Christians would follow their own drive rather then the bible, but if that is the case, it still prooved the point: the bible makes no difference in how people behave. Whether we go left or right, the conclusion seems to be the same.
When I was a Christian, I was annoyed with dogmatic condescending Christians. Now that I'm an atheist, I'm annoyed with dogmatic condescending atheists. Just goes to prove that people are the same, regardless of what they do or don't believe.

Girlysprite, why don't you just ban Fr0d0? Oh, that's right, you're not staff. So you can't tell people to shut up.

Hey Gawdzilla, a lot of people are telling to shut up and take a hike to others all the time (esp. Christians). I'm just getting adjusted here.
Or does Frodo have a special pet status?

I replied to you (above) Girlysprite and you ignored me .
Who's insulting you anyway??? 1. The fear factor of hell is un Christian. 2. Following the bible is an aim not a pre-requisite.

All murder is killing but not all killing is murder. What the 6th commandment forbids is unlawful killing, a.k.a. "murder". So, as long as the "killing" done by Moses is lawful/justified -from the perspective of the jewish law (torah), I mean- Moses was not breaking the 6th commandment. Or does Frodo have a special pet status? Nah, I just like telling trolls to shut up.

Frodo, it may appear I have accidentally overlooked your post, sorry. I'll reread and look into it later, and write a reply to adress your points.
Gawdzilla, I'm not a troll, as it is not my sole purpose to upset people. If you reread this topic, you'd see I'd try to make a contribution to the discussions, something that trolls do not do.
