I would disagree with that statement. Here is a video that shows what can happen, hopw bad it can be for the student (and this happened in a public school. Imagine what would happen in a Christian school:
All I'm saying here is that there are consequences to coming out, and the OP needs to be aware of what they are.

Actually, Taylor, it depends.
Mainly it depends on whether you are 14 or 26. If 14, you are stuck with those idiots for a while and there isn't much you can do about it in a practical sense. If you are 26, man up and tell them to stop bothering you with silly superstitions.

Wait till you're an adult and then tell them exactly where you stand, and why. It might get...heated, but sure that's always fun

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life.

I would explain that if they keep threatening you to believe then you won't be able to have the true belief they want you to. Explain to them that you can't come to your own conclusion if they are extorting their beliefs upon you, which is what relgious beliefs should be all about. If that doesn't work, just fake it until you're old enough to tell them the truth.

Well, that wasn't my experience. Perhaps I was simply a lot stronger than that little girl was. Regardless, I think her father should sue the SHIT outta that school for the reactions of the teachers and staff.

I hope they do as well. I think a little caution is advised here, because we don't know how the people around the OP will react if he comes out, so he needs to really think long and hard about it before making a decision. And I don't think it hurts anything to wait until he's of age. He knows what he believes, and he shouldn't let what other people believe bother him. But teenagers can be cruel, and so can family members. That girl was obviously very young (probably my oldest grandson's age - he is also a declared atheist, though I haven't heard that anyone has given him much grief about it. He's a pretty likable kid). I'm glad her father was so supportive. That's important.
