Another good example:

You saw a dark/shady object move through the forest in the distance.
Your assumptions:
*It was a ghost.
*It was a monster running from something.
*It was Jesus running from the Romans
*It was a giant butterly.

Now for the two simplest explanations:
*It was a dark/shady object. You have no evidence to assume it was anything other than a dark/shady object.
*You were hallucinating.

Hm..makes me think of the so called prophets and how they supposedly came with their "revelations." I'm sure they were either "fucking nuts" as minimalist put it, or they had a hidden agenda. Religion to me is the biggest conspiracy in the world. Confusedhock:

The best conspiracies are the ones in which no one is actually attempting to conspire, and yet the overall effect is identical.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

More like the biggest joke on earth.

When they make so many assumptions and make it more and more complex, the far greater the likely hood of being completely wrong.

There is an extremely high probability of they being completely wrong.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I think the sole reason religious people stick to their convictions so strongly is because of heaven and hell. They so desperately want an after life. They are so afraid of hell and eternal torture. What I hate the most is how theists come to me and say "What's the point of your life?" "It has no meaning." It pisses me off because what they don't realize is that they're life is pointless if they think they're going to heaven forever. They're life on earth because so meaningless they might as well kill themselves. Our lives on the other hand are extremely meaningful because we don't know what happens when we die, most likely nothing. If there was no concept of hell, I'm pretty confident that religion would have a hard time functioning. Thinking

They won't admit it. They do lust for something more after this limited existence ends. The lust for some kind of greater purpose deludes them.
Life isn't meaningless. It is a great chance for each of us to see what it is to exist. To discover who we are and where we came from. As one bright mind put it "we are the cosmos looking at itself".
We can create our own sense of purpose. Mine is to live life to the full whilst helping others to do the same. To experience as much as possible before I become scattered molecules and atoms again.
Your existence is what you make of it. You can either choose to see reality for what it is or hide from it with religion. I hate it when theists say they are in the interest of truth. If they were, they'd have no problem accepting reality around them. Truth seekers will accept the truth no matter how good or evil or disappointing it may be.

The threat of hell only works on those who believe it. Fear is a good motivational tool but not always reliable. Fear turns into hate and hate turns into rebellion.

Being open minded doesn't mean accepting bullshit, fr0ds.

It means simply holding on long enough to listen to what you have to say, analyze it and then write it off knowingly. Anything less than that is lazy. And closed.

Nope, not what I said. He doesn't have to be open to anything so ludicrous it couldn't possibly be true, like being hauled up to Valhalla when he dies.

Stupid people.
