Parts of it are.. some parts are just as forward thinking as Europe. Most non-Americans probably do not calculate the sheer VASTNESS of our country and take it into account of their complaints of praises. New York is OBVIOUSLY more progressive than Mississippi...not all southern towns are full of hateful idiots either.

.....what an uncomfortable statement......surely you don't think so.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Of course it is uncomfortable..and it is something that I would not ask a black either...it is merely based on my experiences with my fellow white citizens...racism is alive and well in America.

That racism is alive and well isn't something that I'd take issue with (I'm from the deep south myself)...I'm not so sure that racism makes people wish they weren't what they are...is all.

I'm with Rhythm on that one. Just because blacks may be discriminated against still in this day and age isn't enough reason to expect them to not want to be black.

"Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds."
Einstein

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life.

Pompey the great more or less stamped out piracy in the Med for the Roman Republic. He was not a pirate himself.

I raid and plunder with one ship, I'm a pirate, you do it with a fleet, you're an imperial navy.
