I have some hope that it will be, someday. My Bantu friends have been through a crucible that included sharing a Kenyan refugee camp with people of other faiths, so maybe they have a head start.

He blindly agrees with everything the koran says, as he has to, as a Muslim, no matter how questionable, disgusting, evil or violent. And will make any possible excuse to try and justify whatever is done in the name of Islam.

A smidge simplistic and more than little at odds with my perception and experience of Islam and Muslims (and of Rayaan).


There are two main branches of Islam,(Sunni and Shia) and many denominations,each having it own ideas of what the Qur'an actually says.

To complicate matters, there is also the Hadith. Although not doctrine it is treated as such by many,but ignored by others.

I have never actually met a Muslim who supports violent jihad. (The word simply means 'struggle' as in the daily struggle of life)

The Muslims I've known are horrified by the barbarity of the violent Islamists and the extreme behaviour of the Wahhabi Muslims of Saudi Arabia

To me, Rayaan seems like a good, decent man and a good Muslim. Although not synonymous,neither are the two mutually exclusive as you seem to suggest..

In my experience and perception, most Muslims are just ordinary people, neither especially nor bad who do the best they can day-to-day to have a prosperous and peaceful life.


To judge all Muslims by the extreme Islamists, is just like judging Christianity by the Christian lunar right, culminating in Fred Phelps.

To an outsider to Christianity, it might appear that the KKK or the Lords Resistance Army or torture of 'witch children' in Nigeria; are something that Christians should be distancing themselves from, while internal to Christianity they already figure they're distant enough. How could anyone possibly think the actions of a radical militant sect reflect on Christianity as a whole? But let some Muslim terrorists hit us where it hurts, and Muslims all over the world are expected to fall all over themselves apologizing for them and denouncing them, and although plenty have, it's never enough for some people.

The icing on the cake is so many atheists telling Muslims what they have to believe in order to be true Muslims, based on the atheist's interpretation of the Qur'an and hadiths. Isn't that stupid? Don't we want them to cherry pick their scriptures in a way that allows them to participate in modernity? It's like going after Jews to tell them they have to stone disobedient children or they're not true followers of Yahweh. Well, maybe they're not, but I say we just humor them about not stoning children...let them use whatever excuse works for them, because if we convince them that their only choice is to stone disobedient children or give up their religion, some of them might just pick their religion.
