maybe because the people of those societies are not of the opinion that "i am a countryman of 'the best/wealthiest/most affluent country around'?i refer to British and americans, who seem to think that they ARE the 'developed west'?!maybe the less advantaged societies still see the need, and rightly,to 'ask for' help with their day-to-day lives? i dont know,i'm just guessing....what i am trying to say is-the US and UK like to tell the rest of the world how to live, even though the societies of UK and US are very very materialistic/mercenary.and not therefore a 'shining example' as they themselves would like to believe?

Intersesting point Nicos...I'm from Australia and we are not an affluent country thanks to the illegal immigration policies of our govt.
Many Australians here are poverty stricken and are not heading to the various religious panaceas available...they are getting murderous.

lol true that Summer Queen!!
Now tell the people smugglers that you NEED a criminal record to get into this country and we'll be sweet.... wait hang on ... this is already happening... don't worry about it
Even our Animal activist and Green movment and Environmentalists are criminals...talk about questionable activities!!
But I digress..back to the subject.
It would seem that the poorer you are physically the poorer you are spiritually and are in dire NEED of a religion. hmmmm boat people hmmmm...mental health issues hmmm
sorry what? Oh yes... So this article I found interesting and thought it would add to the need of adopting atheism as a world view. So I posted here.

Since Religion is a powerful crutch, Atheism is a luxury. So that's hardly surprising really

Religion falsely promises you that by doing things totally useless towards improving your situation, you will improve your situation. But if you are beaten down and feels you can do nothing pragmatic to improve your situation, why not embrance that fantasy and imagine that what you can do, whch are things totally useless, will improve the situation anyway?
The problem is, of course, when you can do something useful, but choose to do things totally useless.
