I am weak and I fell. I relapsed. And I spent days without sleep, tormented, in hell even though I was still here!
To be fair, these were fundies. I know some xers who could care less, like Episcopaleans who could care less if they even believe in a god. That is all optional. HA!
What kind of power is in that twisted sh*t?????
Better now. Have not talked to them for a long time. The stain in lifting, although I live with xers who gather and worship and drive me NUTS.
@Rachel been there, done that, got the freakin t- shirt. The best advice I can think of is remember these are mind games and bs. It is all about control. Know their game and don't play it.

Imagine that you are standing in front of a bomb. You have been tasked with defusing this explosive, and you have been given 38,000 manuals to aide you in accomplishing the task. The differences range from minor to major between each manual, however each claims to be the proper technique to defuse this particular explosive. Further, all claim that their methods have defused such a bomb before, but none can show any physical evidence for this claim.
I don't know about you, but I want a definitive answer before I cut wire no. 1

Now if you wanted your example to be more like religion it would be, "You have a bomb in your ass... and the manuals would be about how to remove the bomb or at least assure that you are safe after the bomb goes off, or maybe that there is no bomb or you and all is illusion; depending on the manual."
