Catholic fail

RE: Catholic fail
It seems the logo was designed in 1973. http://www.ihatethemedia.com/the-most-in...-seriously

So they probably weren't really worried about how it would look to the rest of the world. The whole "paedophile priests" scandal hadn't happened yet.

Way to take the wind out of our sails.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Still, if that logo is that old, I say it's time for an update!
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Even then someone surely must have looked at it and asked "is this really a good idea?"?

Oh it had happened. They just had better control of the flow of information in 73.

Perhaps the person or persons who designed the logo was trying to tell people that there was widespread sexual abuse of children by the clergy.

The molestation happened, but the scandal had a few decades to break out. Although, given the Church's policy on dealing with molesters by just sending them to another parish, I really doubt that the powers that be even care about what the rest of the world thinks of them.
