And yet conspiracies survive!

If the landing was indeed faked then publishing some photos like these wouldn't be too difficult.

No! It's a conspiracy! Those pics are fake! It's a government conspiracy!

One thing I've learnt, is that no matter how much evidence of something, there will always be people who will continue to jump up and yell "Conspiracy!". Like flat earth nuts. I've visited their forum. Pure denial and lack of education. It's like they never went to school.

Lovely photos.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Bozo, I do not have a great dislike for conspiracies or label all conspiracy theorists as nuts. I simply haven't met a theorist who wasn't nutty in some way and I haven't come across a conspiracy that has sufficient evidence. The J.F.K. assassination is fishy enough for me to think that it might have been an organized crime, but that isn't even really a conspiracy theory. Initial investigations by government authorities were the first to suggest it and have yet to state it is not the case. They simply don't know who else was involved. Moon landing happened. The Twin Towers fell because of the impact of the planes. Bigfoot isn't real and Area 51 has top secret stuff, not necessarily aliens. That's why they don't tell us what is happening there, or all of it, anyway.

The problem is that these conspiracy theory proponents believe governments have near supernatural abilities. Trying to explain to them the shear scale and complexity of their theories only reaffirms their belief that the government is all-powerful.

The recurring theme I've come across with the conspiracy theorists is a real lack of critical thinking abilities.

To them, lack of evidence in their favour just proves how hard the guvmint is working to cover it up, and evidence against their position must have been falsified. Just like young earth creationists and their "Dinosaur fossils? Devil put them there, lol, science, you so silly".

Somehow proposition of the style "jesus must be god because thousands of people wouldn't believe him to be god if he wasn't god", always deemed strong enough proof of an entire cosmology, is almost never deemed strong enough proof of far less overarching, like " NASA must be have landed on the moon because thousands of people wouldn't believe it did if it didn't"
