The Bible

The Bible
I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The reason I believe it is because God gave prophecies to His servants the prophets of Israel and His prophecies have come to pass just as He said.

Examples:

There are over 100 prophecies that have been fulfilled but I will start with just some of the prophecies of Daniel that related to the kingdoms of the Middle East:

Bible prophecy: Daniel 2:32-33
Prophecy written: About 530 BC
Prophecy fulfilled: Throughout history

In Daniel 2:32-33, there is a prophetic passage that symbolically identified the four great kingdoms that would rise up and control much of world, beginning in Daniel's lifetime. The passage uses symbolic imagery:

1. The head of gold, as Daniel explained, refers to the Babylonian Empire that ruled much of the world about 2600 years ago.

2. Daniel said that the head-of-gold empire would be followed by an empire symbolized by arms of silver. Christian scholars have often interpreted this to refer to the Medo-Persian Empire which later conquered the Babylonian Empire. The scholars say that the two arms refer to the two groups - the Medes and the Persians - who comprised the Medo-Persian Empire.

3. The third kingdom was symbolized by the statue's belly and thighs of brass. Some scholars believe that this is a reference to the Grecian Empire, which conquered the Medo-Persian Empire. The symbol of a belly and thighs of brass suggests that the kingdom was to start out as a united empire but end up as a divided empire. Under the leadership of Alexander the Great, the Grecian Empire was a united empire. But after Alexander's death, the empire was divided up.

4. The fourth symbol - that of iron legs and feet that were part iron and part clay - has often been suggested to be a reference to the Roman Empire, which later conquered the Grecian Empire.

These four kingdoms ruled over much of the world, and each of the four ruled over the land of Israel during times in which a significant number of Jews - and perhaps a majority of Jews - were living in their homeland. Before the collapse of the Roman Empire, Jerusalem was destroyed and hundreds of thousands of Jews were forced into exile. Even today, a majority of Jews live outside of Israel. - Copyright © George Konig, Ray Konig and 100Prophecies.org

Daniel 2:32-33:

32 The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze,

33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay.

Now, I realize that these prophecies are from the Bible, which you don't acknowledge but it has been accepted by scholars for over 2000 years as historically accurate.

I don't know much about history, because it doesn't interest me at all... But, it is good to see that you have returned... Although, I would remove the copyright in your post Tongue

As for accuracy, I usually find that it only seems to be Christian scholars who find a lot of the bible historically accurate Wink

The copyrighted material is free for anyone to use as per the source. It is exactly what I would say but is much easier to just copy. Is that against the rules?

There are a handful of things in the Bible that have some basic historical legitimacy to them: Names of cities. Certain roman persons. etc. but for the most part the Bible has very little historical accuracy and rather, has been proven to be painfully inaccurate time and time again.

For example: The Hebrew slaves in Egypt. The worldwide flood. King Solomon. King David. Even the existence of Christ is mostly circumstantial. Plus, it's hard to prove anything to be a prophecy, not only because they are so prone to interpretation, but because it's often difficult to prove that the "prophecy" itself wasn't written a couple hundred years after the fact.

No. It just reads a bit strangely with the copyright sitting there in your post.

That's a lot of interpretation required to give this passage meaning. One might ask if the prophecy was actually fulfilled, or if there even was a prophecy in this book to begin with.

"The prophecies of the Book of Daniel have fascinated readers and created controversy for the past two thousand years. Evangelical Christians believe that the prophet Daniel, an official in the courts of Near-Eastern emperors in the sixth century BC, foretold the future of the world from his own time to the end of the age. Actually, the book was written in Palestine in the mid-second century BC by an author who expected God to set up his everlasting kingdom in his own near future, as we read in the mainline commentaries and Bible dictionaries"

Which scholars have accepted them as accurate? Can you find any scholars who are not themselves Christian who agree that this is the correct interpretation of the 'prophecy'?

The problem with Biblical prophecies is that they tend to use vague language that can be interpreted loosely (it's the same trick astrology uses with your horoscope, which is why credulous people think they're very impressive). You say that people have interpreted this language to relate to things, but does that necessarily make it so? It's simply nowhere near specific enough to be taken seriously as a prophecy.

Okay, I'm confused now. You told me to give substantiation to my statements and I did but you are just making statements without any substantiation now. Why are the rules different for me and dont apply to you guys?

Also, four dissenters with questions all at once and you don't call that gang-banging? Why did I even bother to come back?
