Wow there are some jaded people in this thread. Be a parent, then tell me love doesn't exist. There is more then just procreating.

A lot of us are parents. I am a mother of 3 children whom I love deeply, but I didn't think that was the kind of love we were discussing in this thread. I thought it was the icky kind of love that was the topic.

Indeed.But icky love can still be wonderful,while it lasts.

In my reasonably long life,I've concluded that parental love (especially maternal) is the only reliable form of love.

BUT please don't think that loving your kids will stop you from fucking them up.

Note to parents (a father of five told me this): Apart from you and your immediate family,other people are REALLY not interested in your offspring.

Love can be different things for different people.

My love for my children is different than my love for my wife.

But they boil down to,for the people I love:

1: I would rather be hurt myself than see hurt to them.
2: I would feel grief at the thought of never seeing them again.
3: I can always stand their company.


The above is true for all the people I love, my wife has the added benefit of looking damn sexy to me after 21 years together.

Yeah I can understand where you are coming from. But growing up I've seen my parents go from totally in love to totally hating each others guts. That kind of killed any idea I had that people can stay in love forever. So why bother in the first place? Honestly, most people I see getting married end up getting divorced. I've also ruined a great friendship with a girl by saying I was in "love" and things have never felt the same since. Of course that's all a part of growing up and I don't want to seem like a drama queen. But until I meet that next girl that really makes me go crazy I'll be content with non romantic love. and videogames. I love videogames.

I'm sure you'll realise what a silly argument that is soon enough. It's like saying that some people drown, so you shouldn't go swimming.
