Rhythmn neither I nor the article I linked to were referring to any homeopathic effectiveness of meditation. It was actually a scientifically run experiment concerning concentration increases when performing tasks, both before after meditative practice. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my original opening post, my bad.

Yes. The best benefit along those lines which I gained was from Tai Chi, which I studied for two years. It was the moving meditative aspect that allowed it to work for me. Yoga is also very good for me mentally, but mainly because it is good for me physically: The sitting in a place staring at a place/non-place and its ilk never took me anywhere I already wasn't.

I love Tai Chi too, i recently started practicing it again. Isn't there a meditative aspect to it too though.. the Quigong, opening up the breathing and increasing the flow of chi?? have you encountered these parts of the practice and if so did you find they helped you with your routine?

No, I have found the meditative aspect of Tai Chi rewarding, but what it takes for me to get there is the movement. I have tried yogic breathing, and, unless I am actually working to better an asana, I do not get anywhere meditative. This is why working on cars and motorcycles provides me the gateway through which I can effectively become meditative. Still have to investigate tantra, but I need a cute female partner for that.

My mind has always been quieter after beating myself up physically. I don't think Tai Chi would do it. Physical labor, or real exercise like running or weight lifting, do much more for me. I think more clearly when I keep up with that.

See, I am kinda weird I guess, because I use exercise to get out all my frustration. I do a 45 minute cycle class almost every day, and I am starting kick boxing and pilates next week because I just bought a bike and I want to do real cycling now. Sometimes when I finish working out I go have quiet time in the sauna, and do something like meditation. I also achieve a sense of calm from taking long, late night drives with my favorite songs.

Exercise gets out my aggression, and quiet contemplation clears my head. When I was younger I was into tantra. It's... interesting.

Yeah, I started into it with a girl I dated a long time ago. "Interesting" is a very good word for it, etymologically speaking.

I meditate. I have an anxiety disorder and ADHD. Meditation helps with both. I don't believe it helps me connect to any higher power or opens my third eye, but it does have psychological benefits for me.
That will never hold up in court...
