Mediation is like popping a couple of Xanax? I jest. I try not to use the stuff whenever possible.
In all seriousness, you're right - at least that's how it was explained by my therapist.

Absolutely. Mindfulness is a core practice in both cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy - shamelessly stolen from Buddhism.
When I have been able to consistently practice mindfulness, it has brought me a feeling of contentment and self-acceptance that is otherwise nearly impossible to achieve. I hope to be able to maintain that level of mindfulness over the long haul, unfortunately, I haven't been able to for more than about two months. It's still fairly new to me, and I'm sure given enough practice, I'll be able to.

I too practiced Buddhism for a while in my late teens. I am a big believer in consciousness of thought. It's hard to master, but it has big payoffs. I have always been a really focused person. I find my meaning in life through experiences, even the little ones that people often take for granted. Sometimes it nearly drives me mad.

Meditation, "mindfulness", focus and "Living in the moment" are tools I also use.
Don't agree with the woo factor some people want to put to it but yes these "Buddhist Practices" are very beneficial in ASSISTING a person through their day or an illness.

That's the second time someone on this thread has used the term "woo". I was just wondering if this is just an arbitrary word used to describe the proposed spiritualistic claims supposedly found in things like meditation, or if it's a shortened down version of a longer word denoting something similar? can anyone enlighten me?.. pardon the pun there lol
