I agree that these people would be exactly who they are regardless of their religion. I disagree that this "is not islam, as such". Islam is nothing if not the actions and ideals of muslims. There's nothing else to religion but the people who follow it. It's a tool that justifies whatever someone was going to do or be regardless. Muslims make islam, islam does not make muslims.

The bible says the same crap, if a woman is raped the man has to marry her....nothing at all about what the victim wants let alone needs.  religion! And people ask how religion is screwing up the world, there's proof right there.

So much for the place America was going to bring democracy to.
The new "laws" made by the "democratically" elected Afghan gov are heavily influenced by the shia, and boy, they have some nice, sexist laws on the side due to it.
I wish the fucking commies had overrun Afganistan, it would have been a better place without the rogue US agents treibing their unsinnn today.

Absolutely, downbeat. I'm obviously not Buddhist, but the destruction of the huge Buddhas was pretty disturbing for me. As an atheist, I obviously have no religion, but the destruction of history pisses me the fuck off. I don't care if it is a temple where people were taken to be bludgeoned to death. If it is from a time long past, no one should touch it.
