I don't like using gel to style my hair but I was at the barbers because I wanted my hair cut shorter and he said the shorter it was cut the more it stuck up at the back and the only way to stop it sticking up was to gel it down. I'm not using gel to style my hair but to just flatten it  because it sticks up all weirdly at the back otherwise. Damn my asymmetrically-sticky-up-at-random-points hair. It also makes my hair look wet. I don't usually like gel though so I wish there was another way. Oh well. Maybe I could get used to liking it (one thing I will never do is use gel to make my hair stick up or 'spikey' I do not like that).

Try spray gel. Not a crappy kind but a kind from a hair salon. It does the same job but it's lighter and doesn't make your hair look gross and wet and greasy or feel hard and crunchy
