I remember once playing a space-empire game. One of my enemies had grown very powerful, very quickly... and I did not have more than the slightest information about the star systems comprising but some of it. If my people were to find victory, I had to make a decision... to trust that which I did know, or to hold back my forces in the event of them striking from an unknown point along my borders (I had only the basic scanning technologies).
I poured every ship in my fleet into a relatively unknown bordering system... for I recognized that time was not on my side, and I had lost regardless if this did not work.
