Well, transubstantiation isn't literal consumption of Jesus's body and blood... except that it is... but it also isn't. Though it is. It both simultaneously is and is not. Seriously though, when I asked a priest (a long time ago) why transubstantiation wasn't considered merely symbolic (even though it clearly isn't literal flesh and blood), he said that it is literal... and also not literal.
P (1) Transubstantiation is literally consumption of flesh and blood.
P (2) Transubstantiation is not literally consumption of flesh and blood.
