They contacted the police because there was enough cause to do so. It's called doing the right thing. You should try it sometime.
The fact that it wasn't about something site specific, is of no concern to you. If someone is presenting themselves as a danger to the public, there's a moral obligation to the public to keep people safe. If you have a problem with that then perhaps you should go play in fucking traffic.
If it wasn't something site specific then why were his activities being discussed here. That is bad etiquette.
