So can you explain to me how the Jews misunderstood their own religious texts and concluded that God was good? How come you read the same words that they wrote, most likely with less understanding because you're coming at it through translation, and come up with the opposite to them?

I am not being egotistical because I hold no pretensions of perfection. I put more emphasis on human suffering because it is my nature to feel more empathy towards humans than to other life forms, though I do have concerns that this is a flawed way of thinking. I do not believe nature is flawed because I would have to believe it was designed to believe that the design has flaws. I accept the fact that this life holds everything of value because it is all we have. I accept the fact that injustice and unfairness exist because there is no objective standard of either and there is no God controlling all of it.

You have to understand, there are no contradictions to be had in my worldview. I am a sentient being in a dumb, natural world. I do not have to reconcile any of it with the whims of a god, and the consequences of omnipotence have no practical meaning to me. Every problem I point out is a problem only if one takes your assumptions at face value.

Says you. To my mind, a world where one isn't beholden to the capricious assumptions of an always watching sky monster can yield far greater happiness. A world where one recognizes that happiness, not just for yourself but for everyone around you, is solely in your hands, and not something that can be doled out or taken away willy nilly from on high. A world of personal responsibility and personal atonement, where all your goodness comes from you... how can you possibly say this world has anything but the greatest possible potential for positivity?

As there exists, and will never exist, an objectively 'true' interpretation of any religious text, my interpretation is equally-valid to anyone else's.

That being said, it's very telling that you consider it 'warped' to interpret genocide, rape, slavery, child murder and torture as bad and undesirable things.
