You do grow out of that. Beyond which, is there really that big a similarity between childhood and slavery? Assuming you don't live in a Dickens novel, I mean. Tongue

Not everyone does, and yes: there are a number of similarities, depending on where you live. You can't consent to anything, your parents authoritatively declare everything you're allowed to do, and in some places: you're literally their property.

I'd say it's slavery... with some human rights interventions Smile You know... pets are slaves too, but people don't like seeing slaves beaten within a bloody inch of their life (really, it's quite distasteful).

Really, being a kid kinda sucks in a lot of ways... and it's entirely on the parents as to whether they'll be treated well or miserably... thank goodness for public education being mandatory Wink

Quote:Ooh, almost. Yes, rape willing genetics would be passed on, but rape is traditionally something done unto, it's not a solo activity; the genes for not liking being raped will also be passed on, so it's kind of a wash. We'd have people who like to rape, but hate being raped, and they'd have to put strictures in place to protect themselves from that, surely.

And if the genes for disliking rape aren't passed on, we're left with... consensual, rough sex? Sounds like a party to me. Wink (Within reason!)

That's assuming they could overpower an equal number of rapists. Infact, it could be a very divisive species war Tiger

Now there's your party Tongue Ehh, if someone can recover any enjoyment during rape: I say good on them Smile

Quote:Aww, I was really hoping you'd go with the baby eating line, there. I'd set you up for it and everything. Tongue

Unless 'meds' constitutes something like hormones, and 'therapy' constitutes something for your leg after you break it:

Avoid both. Like the goddamn plague.

I have a strong feeling that you are assuming on many parts that you share the same belief as others of your particular faith and that said belief is right. If we cannot know all things regarding god due to our lack-of omniscience, then how can you validate your statement to be true other than through your own personal experience with your god? It seems as though you are walking the fine line of asserting and assuming and not making it abundantly clear what is what.
I can assert what I know from a position of belief. Which is different to your knowledge given your position of disbelief. Of course it would be foolish for any natural being to presume knowledge of what any supernatural being might do. I don't have to present you with examples of supernatural ability myself to illustrate that, but it's amazing that you should intimate that I might possess such powers, if massively irrational.

Like I said, answered in the other thread with the duplicate post (I'm pretty sure, because you removed the quote link Wink)

Not exactly the most compelling of evidence. I think the bible has some bias toward puffing itself and its precepts up, don't you?

Any evidence that lacks this bias? Studies? Even self report models will do.

Jonathan Swift is a harsh mistress indeed. Tongue

Though that Dark Cloud 2 reference just made you that bit more awesome in my view. It's been ages since I've played that thing, nostalgia engaged. Wink

This again?

Or are we going with the "it mentioned real places and people sometimes, so it must be true!" argument?

I look at the Bible and I don't see the bias... If it were biased, wouldn't all of the fucked up things the Israelites did be stricken from the record? Wouldn't the prophets praise, instead of condemn them? Wouldn't they be portrayed as the innocent victims instead of the "sinners" with blood on their hands?

Fear, probably. If god commanded it, it was assumed to be moral, so I see no problem in their putting in those things as they thought they were justified. It demonstrates the power of god. Why do you think people used to be called "god fearing"? No matter how obviously wrong something is, the bible calls it righteous if god commanded it, and unfortunately a lot of people take that self anlysis at face value.

You haven't read the Bible in my opinion. The atrocities are written about, the lies are written about, the oppression is written about.
The Israelites were fucked up and the Bible said so...

But it's okay because god told them to do those things. /religious logic

I know all of that already, but someone who genuinely believes that something is automatically good just because god says so would see it differently.

It's more interesting than playing devil's advocate, that's for sure. Smile

Actually, Dark Cloud was the first PS2 game I ever played... or owned. I was still a fresh face to video games, and my older brother bought it (and left it to me when he left home).

Nostalgia engaged indeed... mimic back floors can go to hell.
