"Cut and paste" Christianity
#61
RE: "Cut and paste" Christianity
Quote:@ Dotard & Craveman: Well with your logic language is meaningless - we may as well call a table a chair, as much use as it is.
Well, many chairs are tables... and many tables are chairs. I can eat on a chair and I can sit on a table Smile Of course... I can also eat on a beached whale and sit on an angry orangutang Smile

Really depends on how you are defining table and chair, and if they are different in any way at all Smile

How come so many Christians aren't like you, fr0d0? Smile (And I mean that in the best way possible... many Christians still think homosexuality is some sort of affront to their god Undecided)

My Dad used to sing this song.. The old barn door was the table we had, and the table we had was the old barn door ...repeat ad infinitum Smile

Christians _are_ like that. You only get to hear from the loud mouthed & ignorant usually Smile (do I include myself?? Big Grin)

I'm afraid that fr0d0's interpretation of the Bible's message about homosexuality is perhaps based more on his society and personal views of the subject rather than what is actually said. It requires quite a bit of imagination to subscribe to fr0d0's interpretation. The Bible quite clearly states "contrary to nature" rather than "contrary to his/her nature", and uses words like male and female rather than referring to specific men or women.

I'm sorry fr0d0, I'd like to believe that your view is Biblically based, and that the anti-gay Christians are in the wrong, but if that's your explanation of the passage, I don't have much hope for your view being successful.

I don't know... maybe you are INSANE! Mad Scientist More likely, you've noticed that it is the sort of thing I enjoy responding to Smile I perfectly understand your dad's song... although I think it more awesome than probably most other people do Tongue

I suppose some (or even a fair number of) Christians could be like that... But I think Adrian is right (As I usually do, even if I don't understand him sometimes Smile). A pity most other Christians aren't like fr0d0 though Tongue At least *I* think it would be an improvement (Though I think it is hardly asking for much Tongue)

So you think homosexuality isn't natural then Adrian? That's the only way I can see your statement working there. If homosexuality is indeed natural, then you are wrong.

There's plenty of information on the web about it. Yeah plenty of antagonists making wild & provocative accusations, but also plenty of reasoned explanation, such as here: http://www.jesus21.com/content/sex/index...exuality_1

No, I believe homosexuality is natural fr0d0. I was just pointing out that this isn't what the Bible seems to say, and your argument for that position seems imaginative at best. I'll have a read through the links when I have the time though; perhaps they explained the view better than you could.

The bible states clearly that homosexuality at least in the Old Testament under the law was punishable by death.

Leviticus 20:13
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

No amount of apologetics or theological bull shit can change that.

satire

But a man can't lie with a man as he lies with a woman... because men don't have vaginas! Confusedhock:

It isn't homosexuals the bible hates... it's hermaphrodites! Shock Of course, this all depends on how one defines 'man' and 'woman'... if the bible was referring to gender identity: things might be a little more complicated.

That help you understand fr0d0's viewpoint? Smile I agree with him on this specific passage... though the bible still shows its intolerance any way you cut it on this passage. Smile
