Because I live with an extremely painful neuropathic condition that causes nearly constant pain. NSAIDs aren't effective for my condition and are dangerous in the dosages I would need to take to get any relief; opiates are highly addictive and dangerous; and drugs specifically prescribed for neuropathy are largely ineffective at dosages that any sane doctor would prescibe.

Not that it's any of your goddamned business what I choose to put in my body, much as it's none of my goddamned business what you choose to do with yours.

P.S. It also happens to be enjoyable.

No one needs to do drugs. There are any number of reasons that people use drugs, many of them bad (IMO). Pot seems to provide the benefit that drug users seek (makes them feel good) without the adverse side effects of harder drugs, including addiction.

There are a great many things we do not need to do. We do them because they make us feel good in some way. As long as the cost in terms of health or well being isn't too high (pun not intended) I don't see a problem.

It's strange with smoking pot because even though lots of people claim to enjoy it I've never been around a group of pot smokers or a singular pot smoker who did enjoy it.

Every single person who I've witnessed smoking it ever has had the same side effect and I think I must have witnessed around 100 people in my life who have smoked it.

Tiredness, lack of motivation to get up and do anything, paranoia, red eyes, forgetfulness, talking slowly usually due to forgetting what you started talking about in the first place, depression.

I've never felt pain relief from it like painkillers or a sense of euphoria like an ecstasy pill.

Despite all that I also don't think it's a dangerous drug either, from my experience it decreases aggression, motivation and memory so much and increases paranoia that even if you did hate someone you would probably not dare to do anything to hurt them or just forget why you hated them or be too lazy to have such intense emotions towards someone.

On the whole I think it's just the most bland boring thing in the world with the most exciting rebellious image in the world that really isn't justified.
