A friendly Christian sent me a message

For example my mom says she talks to God and writes it God, though when I was displaying signs that I now realize were part of my OCD, God NEVER brought it up to my mom until they knew about it and I was diagnosed. Seems midly suspicious.

I think you'll find that god never really reveals anything to people before they were able to independently confirm it, if you look back. Wink

They believe at the end of the day God is everything, other stuff may be nice and all, but God's all that matters. So atheists are saying they're living a fairy tale? I've even heard my parents say the next town they move to will be "wherever the Lord leads us". They are not casual believers, they are hardcore.

See, I don't think this is true, though. I don't think everything they've based their lives on is wrong, because I don't think everything in their life is their religion. God or not, your parents will still have friends and family that love them, and that they love in return. Those aren't lies. The things they enjoy about this world, in nature, in history, in film and books and music and human achievement, none of those are lies.

Every happy moment you've ever had with them will still be there, even if their entire religion was to crumble around them tomorrow. They won't be left with nothing, though the illusion that they will be is one of christianity's most insidious aspects, to me. The way it makes you dependent on it by taking credit for all those good things, so it seems like they'll disappear without the church.

Y'know it's not outright just my parents. I mean like everyone I know is a Christian. If I wasn't a Christian, I'd be saying close to 95% of the people in the area I live in are wrong. Heck, the city I want to live in (the only large one here, by large I mean like over 100,000 people) has a 3.9% non-religious population from the stats I've seen.

There are worse things to base your life on. If they are fulfilled and happy then it does not so much matter if the basis for that happiness is wrong.

But more to the point, and I know I'm repeating myself here, what you decide to believe makes not one atom of difference to the reality. If they made a mistake and based their lives on a lie, you doing so too does not make their decisions any better!

And if you'd grown up in nazi germany, 95% of the people in the area you lived in were antisemetic.

Actually probably less, because the ones who were not kept quiet about it. And indeed there are probably many atheists in your area who don't make an issue of it.

These numbers sound a bit low for C, they probably reflect official denominations and cultural association more than actually held belief. But no matter.
If you'd move to where I live these numbers would be rather different. Either way, at least half the world is wrong, there's no way around it.

So in essence you're saying the mechanism of evolution are proven, but the bree3ding opportunities are intelligently selected by men for a particular direction. "Real" evolution reacting to the random environmental events couldn't use these same mechanisms that the intelligent men used, you claim. Why?

Liar! Liar! You did no such thing!
Like the rest of us ex-christians, you were emotionally brainwashed into believing this shit by the crazy nuts around you. It's too farcical for you to pick it up on your own logic.

Tell us, Without referring to the bible or other christians, What did god say the last time you talked to him? How did he say it? Did you hear a voice, Did you receive any new information that you didn't already have? Who was speaking? Jesus? God? The holy phantom?

There's just no evidence for that, no reason to believe it, so relax.

Be easy on him, he already explained why he hasn't read the bible

Well then, he'll have nobody to blame but himself when we don't believe in him, will he? More importantly, doing that would be a lie, and about literally the most important question in all of existence; your god apparently can't lie, so I wouldn't worry so much about that, but let's assume he could, for a moment.

Would you want to worship a god who turns the entirety of your life into one big game of peekaboo to satisfy his own ego? Would you really worship a lying god just because he threatened you? Does that sound like a good person?

You're allowed to disagree with people, though. So what, they're wrong about one thing? The things you like about them will still be present. Just maybe don't discuss religion with them if you think it'll end up in a fight.

But from what I've heard though atheists are one of the most hated groups of people out there.
