Both are half measures just shy of producing any real benefit to mankind.

Nontheless, the point is there: some religions do seek to control eating and drinking, at least for a limited time. Let's be clear about this; religions control the things people do, from trivial stuff like not shaving or wearing a turban to sexual behaviour and eating habits. Think about kosher and halal. It's all about control, isn't it?

It really is, it bugs me. The psychological control it can have through peer pressure and social assimilation is astounding. Just like this guy, he never had a chance when you are indoctrinated as a kid and face social ostracizing because 90% of your friends are religious.
