MARRIAGE EQUALITY NATIONWIDE

I hope you aren't right.  I hope that the social conservatives promise an anti gay marriage amendment.  I'd like to see them go down in flames on this one.

The definition of marriage as a fundamental right, one that is guaranteed by the 14th amendment, is what I was pointing at. If you agree that even with his definition of marriage he was right, now you have to provide a reason that two men don't qualify for equal protection and due process under the law, and why this fundamental right becomes exclusionary.

I keep stating over and over that I believe equal rights should be given to all.  That's why I suggested a legal civil union which applies to all Americans, straight or gay, who enter into that contract.  Marriage would be a private matter.  In that way, government would not be redefining an institution that is so important to so many citizens, yet it would confer equal status and benefits under the law to all who qualify.  What is so terrible about that?  Marriage came about long before any government was involved.

I agree.  Abolish marriage altogether, recognize civil unions legally at the justice of the peace, and those religious folk who wish to sanctify their relationship through a private ceremony can obviously do so, just as gays have been forced to do for decades. Strip religious leaders of the ability to conduct any civil law ceremonies, so that they cannot be obligated to violate their consciences.

Or, you could just say two competent adults can marry each other so long as there's no duress, and be done with it.

One of these is the equivalent of saying, "Well, fuck you, if I can't have it to myself, no one can have it".  The other one is saying, "Look, dude, we can all share, and no one loses".

Why are you so adamant about being selfish over a fucking word? Pathetic.

Mine too. I get lost in the wonderful videos of old couples getting married in places like Texas and Tennessee. Couples who thought they would never see this day. It's so beautiful, and makes me cry.

My second video weakness. I will cry almost immediately for:
1) Videos of servicemembers coming home and surprising their families
2) Videos of cute older gay couples finally getting married.

My son's mother is bisexual and in a long-term relationship with a wonderful woman. My happiness that they can now avail themselves of the same right that all our parents had gets me to leaking a little, because they can not only get equal civil rights, but have their deep and abiding love recognized by all, in the form of a record that will be archived, in the form of being able to attend each other in medical emergencies, in the form of being able to attend each others' duties in death or grave illness, all the way down to the miniscule being able to say "this is my wife" and not get that funny vibe (which ain't here yet, but will happen because of this decision) -- I well up a little when I think of the long slog that her, Chris, and hundreds of thousands of other couples have had to endure in the face of bigotry and the worst that humanity has to offer -- and goddamn, that commands my respect.

There are a few that are still complaining.  For better or worse, they'll be done complaining well before the 2016 election cycle gets in gear (but even if they keep it up, they're mostly from districts that are so conservative that complaining about gay marriage will actually help them).  I think this ruling will force them to give up on gay marriage before too much longer, though.  Soon they'll try to pass other kinds of anti-gay legislation.  ENDA could be a big issue, too, but the public seems to be getting more and more supportive of homosexuality and trying to harp on that issue is just going to hurt their party overall.

Y'know, Boru, all this time I liked you, thought you were a brilliant sonofabitch, even put up with your swipes at Texas without (much) protest.

But god damn it, this is too fucking much, you don't like pizza. It's probably more like pizza doesn't like you, because everyone, including the dead and the Christian, like pizza.

You take that back.

I have to question the sanity of a person who claims to not like pizza. Get that man a wood-fired Margherita, stat. Who wouldn't like that? Basily tomatoey goodness with fresh mozz?

I predicted that in Texas (which is a US state) same sex marriages will have legal recognition before it occurred in Australia. I was proven right.

Whoah, Whoah. Pizza? I'm all for equal rights and stuff, but I don't think I can be on a forum with someone who doesn't like pizza.

It's been fun guys, I suppose I'll have to find another forum...

Haha Tongue

By the way Lek, are you going to address any of the points I made? If you're giving them some thought at least, I'd be very pleased. I don't expect you to change your mind because I say so of course.

As for bestiality, we need look no further than the bible. Adam was fucking every kind of animal he could get his hands on whole God watched on in bemusement before finally thinking he needed another human. So there's your beasting fuckiality.
