Okay so you can come in here and lecture us on judging people, I for one don't care.

Going off your first post, which was like I said, a lecture and not really adding anything to the convo since we were discussing how shitty the cover up was and not really claiming that believers think other believers are all good. I highly doubt anyone on this site thinks like that. But the mistakes we make I doubt leave other children in danger of being molested. My family took my sisters and I away from my dad when they found out what he had done and the cops were involved right off the bat so yes I know what I would have done in the Duggar situation. I would have removed that pervert from his sisters, not locked them in different rooms over night. (because I mean really locking someone in? Can we say fire hazard? But that is irrelevant)

I'm not judging them for not going public I'm judging them for willingly keeping their daughters in harm's way.

Like I said, I don't agree with how they handled it and I know I would have handled it differently myself.  Being a child of sex abuse myself I know all to well the dangers.

I think they felt they had control of the situation and clearly they did not as it happened again and that time they made a better call.  They made mistakes.  As we all do.

Ok I understand now.  I also don't want you to misunderstand me.  I am not defending the Duggars.  I am solely pointing out that this circumstance they found themselves in shows them as fallible people, just like everyone else, and that I personally would not have handled the situation they did.  But can I say they way they handled it was wrong?  I think that is stretching it.  When you are in the public eye as they are (by choice), decisions need to be handled with greater care and there are more variables at play.  Do I think they spun it as to not entirely ruin their reputation?  Yes I do, but I cannot prove it.  

I am a Christian and there are a great many things I disagree with the Duggars on.  I think sheltering your kids from the realities of the world is detrimental to their growth as a person.

Sorry if my advice was not welcome, you indeed did not ask for it and I offered it without asking.  It's in my nature and if I offended you I apologize.

Most of us Christians believe that the "end of the world" will simply be the second coming of Christ where we all then move on to the next life, whatever that might be.

It certainly is and I've been in MANY emotionally charged discussions on this forum (staying away from abortion topics for a while still).

Knowingly keeping your daughters in the same house as the one that molested them is not a mistake, that is a really stupid fuck up. People don't just get molested at night. He could have molested them at any point.

I will bring religion into it at this point to say that it's prolly cause they think their faith healed him and it was okay to leave them together since ya know some religious people like to put a lot of faith into healing. But again irrelevant so I will just stick with this is not just some little mistake of theirs to be brushed aside which you so easily seem to want to do. THAT is the part that makes me look at the screen and your replies like you might be a bit too much on their side.

I get that.  I was not trying to dismiss it.  They made severe errors in judgment.

When the Duggars put themselves forward as a national moral standard (they chose to include religious beliefs in the show) then I don't have much pity/sympathy for them when they fall. Quite frankly, I think that they deserve the condemnation. Are they any better or worse than me, maybe, maybe not, you judge. But remember, I never set myself up as a pillar of morality. 

I'm sure TLC had some kind of disclosure statement that they signed in which they declined/neglected to disclose Josh's/the family's past. So it now it also becomes an issue of purposeful deceit for monetary profit. 

Not holding the Duggars to a higher standard smacks of catholics (Randy) stating that priests should not be held to a higher standard any more than any other child molester. Bullshit.

It was poor judgement on their part the first time it happened. While I disagree with their decision to try to fix the problem on their own, I can understand why parents wouldn't want to immediately call the cops on their 12 year old son. When it happened the second time, they called the cops. I'm sure they regret not having done it the first time around.

I still fail to see how this makes them such vile people.
