I love their NPR affiliate. 

Unfortunately, I've never gotten to go anywhere in CNC. That means Charlotte, The Triad, and the Triangle. A BFF at college in VT was from Winston-Salem, one of the Triad cities. Loved his thick accent, even though he didn't look the part at all (Italian with an afro. Drove a Sentra).

WS has one of the best Irish pubs I've ever been in - and our Ri Ra's is staffed by actual Irishmen (OMFG the hotness). Finnegan's Wake.

Not poca, not you and not me. I'm pretty sure our Portland crew is likewise enamored with where they live. I wonder just how wide spread this phenomenon is in the population generally and our forums in particular.

TSQ, the company I used to work for had a satellite office in Gastonia. Traveled there twice a year. We always enjoyed Charlotte and the surroundings, except during cane season.

Just for fun, try asking for a sour or bitter tea and watch the response. Damn Yankee!

Actually, there are enough health conscious people in Charlotte that tea isn't an issue anymore. No one bats an eye that I've seen.

What to show, what to show?!!!

This is called "naco na pedra"... translating it becomes something like "lump on the stone".... hehe... lump of meat... hot stone. YOU cook it while you eat it.

Fries and salad are usually on the side.

(I can understand how this would be outlawed in the US and most other places... I mean... that stone is hot... boiling hot... no... sizzling hot! And they just leave it on your table... you, the dumb customer! to manipulate the meat over the stone and eat it directly off the stone!!)

Oh, hey... I just noticed the restaurant name, there... Gravatas... I've eaten there!
Gravata is a neck tie and they have a bunch of them just hanging from the exposed roof beams.

I love Portland; I've not "lived" in many other places but Portland is and will always be home to me. When I flew home from my 3-month study abroad I cried as Portland came into view from the plane's windows.
