I don't know much about 10, but I'm reluctant to take it at the moment. I'm very happy with 7.

If I had windows 8, I'd upgrade to anything.

8 actually wasn't that bad. I hated it at first, until I got used to it. I didn't have any have problems with it. I downloaded 10 yesterday and it went off without a hitch. No problem. Just gotta get used to 10, now.

Yep, this was me as well.  I never had problems with 8, but I disliked it at first out of lack of familiarity.  I like 8 fine now.

Hubby just put 10 on all 3 computers in the house yesterday.  Seems to be running fine for all of us,  Not sure how much I like edge, or whatever the new browser is called, but I'll get used to it.

Yes, I know what you mean. Now if I would know the english term for it, I could help you out here. In German it's under "Benutzerkontensteuerung". User account control? Does that make sense?

Anyway, you have to kill it there.

RE: Windows 10
I just installed it and it's pretty damn good, I can't compare it to win 8 though, cuz I never tried it.

but cortana ? pfffft , please... and also trying to make me use bing by adding an "uncustomizable" search bar in the tool bar, nice try microsoft MUHAHAHAHa.
with no add ons, big NOPE to edge, task view is a very good addition to the task bar. they also now have a larger hardware coverage, I only had to install the external wireless adapter.

overall : 9/10 .

fun fact: did you know why they skipped the "9" and just called it windows 10 ? because some softwares check if the OS is win 98 by just checking the first number, and microsoft realized that this would cause confusion and might lead to apps not working on windows 10, something like the millennium problem of only checking the last 2 numbers of the year.

I bit the bullet and did the upgrade. All went smoothly.
Practically everything works.

Highly recommended!

The experience so far has been trouble-free, and that counts for something.

I like the appearance and function of the Windows 7 UI. I *despise* the appearance and function of the Window 8 UI, insofar as it differs from 7. Windows 10 is more like 8.

Steps to correct this: install Classic Shell to restore the menu I prefer, disable Cortana, unpin Edge and Store from the taskbar.

Still, no Aero desktop. No attractive window decorations. No contrast between the title bar, the menu bar and the rest of the window. Le sigh.

Yeah, it's a small thing to bitch about - but customizing the color and such of window decorations is something that's been part of windows since *at least* 3.1 (in 19 fucking 90), and is conspicuous by it's absence in 10.

Bring back Aero, and bring back the ability to customize the UI the way we've always been able to do and I'll be pretty happy with 10. Word on the street is they're considering bringing back Aero, hopefully the latter will come along for the ride.

Windows 10 isn't really a finished product..
It would probably take them lots of time to find and fix all the bugs of Win 10.
Probably the reason why they put a limited time period for getting the software for free.
Other people are doing the finding bugs part for them, pretty fucking smart huh

I wouldn't upgrade too fast though, the OS probably has lots of pending fixes, its probably in somewhat of an early stage of development and i'd probably have to deal with security updates and general updates popping up too frequently, also Dell hasn't released a reliable set of drivers for my laptop model.

The question is still - why upgrade?

I get that it works fine on most machines, but what does it offer in terms of novelty? I've got a stable and clean system right now, with all the drivers in their right places and everything working as intended.

I'm only considering it because my computer is still relatively new and I don't want to be in a situation where support for Windows 7 ends like it did with XP. Vista's still being supported for the moment so there's a while to go yet but I keep computers for a long time even if they are not my main computer.

Another consideration is because I might want to develop things in the future for Windows. To be honest I'd prefer to keep Windows 7 though and it's still possible that I won't upgrade the main desktop.

I have a flag also, but it says "download" Windows 10.
