Lucian V in Loeb's Classical Library... amazing collection of some very witty satires... includes The Passing of Peregrinus, notable for containing one of the earliest secular perspectives on the Christian church (it was written around 165-166 CE), and perhaps my favorite, the hilarious Eunuch, which I highly recommend you read here: http://www.well.com/~aquarius/lucian-eunuch.htm

I finished the last Septimus Heap e-book last night, "Fyre." Fantastic silly fantasy series set in the far future of our world. 
Listened to the first two "Temeraire" at work this week. Needed a break from that so I started the latest "John Corey" novel by Nelson DeMille. Very good so far. CM, Corey is still the cranky, crotchety, snarky guy we've all come to know and love.
Thief and assassin for hire. Member in good standing of the Rogues Guild.

Sort of a precursor to Carrier's book, written roughly a year before. Mainly valuable for the fact that Carrier was at best an agnostic on the subject but Lataster is one of those people that jesus freaks hate with a white-hot passion. Yes, he was a fundie xtian who, after studying their bullshit came to the conclusion that it is, in fact, just bullshit.
They can forgive Carrier because he is just an enemy.....but Lataster is a traitor. For that reason alone, he is worth reading.

(It's pretty short) The passing of peregrinus is actually quite funny.but I won't spoil it here.

Asimov's "Foundation".
I liked the detail about the religion where the "priests" are the only trained personnel who can operate the technology provided by the foundation.
And, when planets want the tech, but not the religion, economy becomes the driving force. It's like a mirror of the last 2k Earth years.
Overall entertaining, but with too much dependence on accurate control of a whole population by those with seemingly little control over them...

Have you read the second part of foundation and empire? With the rise of the mule.
