She goes to jail, she's being jailed for her faith. She gets fined, she's being forced to pay for being a christian. Even if she gets acquitted, all the judges reverse the court orders and Davis is allowed not only to deny marriage certificates to gay people, but to literally fart in their faces if they try, it'll still become a cautionary tale about how increasing segments of the judicial system hate god, and Davis was only saved because of some good, god fearing judges, who are totally becoming an endangered species in this liberal, atheistic hell hole we call justice.

To say that you don't want her to become a martyr fundamentally misunderstands the nature of the groups supporting her. She's already a martyr. She became a martyr the moment she experienced any official pushback at all for trying to smuggle her bigotry into her work under a Jesus cloak. She said the magic Christ spell ("religious beliefs!") and she wasn't allowed to do absolutely whatever she wanted without criticism or resistance, and so she is being persecuted for her beliefs. That's just the way it goes for the fundies. Now it's just a matter of patiently waiting to see what sort of martyr she'll be, for them.

They had the label for her the moment they didn't get their way. Now they're just filling in the details.

Exactly.  The blowhards on American Family Radio were rehearsing their Davis-as-martyr talking points well before the SC weighed in.  Regardless of how this plays out, she is already being painted as a hero of faith in certain circles.  It was inevitable.

Personally, I hope the bitch caves and agrees to issue the licenses. Furthermore, I hope ever gay couple in Kentucky (unless there are residency restrictions) comes to her county to get married as long as she holds the position. Just imagine how miserable the bitch would be.

I don't think she'll cave because even if she doesn't see herself as a hypocrite for being a divorcee refusing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, she definitely would see herself as a hypocrite for augering in like she has only to cave in at the end. It would take a herculean amount of rationalization for her to defend such an action to herself and she would not only be in a continual losing situation with her ideological opposition who would just see her as more of a hypocrite than she already is, but she would become a hypocrite to her current ideological allies who are backing her for "taking a stand for christ!"

Then let us at least hope that she is inwardly wishing she COULD back down.

She'll only be a fucking martyr to the people who are fucking ignorant enough to agree with her in the first place. Everyone else will just be like "Fuck off, asshole. You're not being fucking persecuted. The stupid cow broke the law. It has nothing to do with her fucking beliefs. She should have fucking resigned if she wasn't so fucking stupid."

I doubt it'll sway anyone toward their cause if the stupid bitch gets thrown in jail where she belongs.

While I agree it's unlikely she'll cave, it's not unprecedented for people to do so when faced with real consequences and not just the threat of said consequences. I fully expect her to martyr herself (at least in her own eyes), but I still hope she caves.
