It is precisely what gun nutters think is the purpose of the 2nd amendment which concerns me.

We needed a militia when the standing army was non-existent or insufficient.  It was always expected to take commands the same as the military from a lawfully elected government.

But gun nutters talk of the 2A as if its purpose were to allow citizens to overthrow the government if it got out of line.  This is so absurd on so many levels.  So rather than except the result of a lawful election, each individual is given a veto power in the form of a gun?  Crazy.  And how exactly are they expected to overthrow the government?  Just start shooting police, service men and elected officials?  Clearly not a rational justification for guns and I'm against arming anyone who thinks like this.

no it would be in the form of a civil war. and just by judging how the last one went...it would not end well.

Personally I am a former marine and currently enjoy gun smithing as a hobby. Would also love to get into competition shooting one day. But I am a strictly peaceful gun nut. I'm mixed, I think. At the end of the day, it's people that kill people. So, firstly, I support the second amendment. However, I support the state's right to attach strings to that. I don't know local gun law, so maybe this is done. I think states and their divisions ought to be able to create laws to exclude those who are not mentally or physically capable to bear guns safely.

I'm not sure what the ADA says about the situation. I'm disabled, myself (I use crutches to ambulate). Because of this, and this alone, I would never own a gun, and feel that such people ought to be limited in having guns. If I had a gun concealed onmy person, an able body could just pick my pocket (well, holster), and then shoot me dead. I'd have no way to defend. But the ADA might overrule me in this regard. I don't know. I'm not big on disabled civil rights.

All that said, I enjoy watching target shooting on the Olympics. I've shot at targets as well. But I'd still never own a gun, because it would serve me no purpose.

Believe me, if Texas ever wanted to secede from the union, we'd put a fence up along that border in a heart beat.

yes states do throw in strings. but like here in texas it will soon be legal for chl holders to open carry their pistols. but texas has a pretty decent chl program. most instructors i've talked to actually know what they're doing. and once open carry goes into affect i don't think we'll see too much of it. almost everyone i've talked to is like nah...i'd rather no one knew i was carrying. and there are other states that already have this with hardly any issues. but usually the strings come in form of like concealed carry restrictions. like california, they require you to have low capacity mags and a manual safety. this wouldn't affect me as i love my 1911 and i wouldn't mind carrying it

You didn't answer his question.  1) The British colonies were not the U.S.  2) The Revolution would have gone down in flames had it not been for French assistance (both direct and indirect).

to answer your question sure that's a reason for gun control. but really why would we have a reason to start a civil war? and i could imagine how well that campaign would go over. hey hand over your guns, we're worried you'd start a civil war. then by trying to avoid one it'd probably start one...

Now wait a minute. No one said you get the mexicans. Let's say you keep tex-mex and we'll take the rest of the music, the farm workers and the better vacation sites.
