Survivor seasons aren't annual, there are two seasons per year, with several months in between.

Never watched it either, but I became curious one day and looked up on IMDB how many years it had been on air: only since 2001, but 27 seasons.

I used to be a huge Survivor fan, but I stopped watching it a couple of years back when I felt the host (Jeff), was interfering too much, especially during tribal councils. It allows him to manipulate the contestants too much.  

I liked the first 8 or so seasons the best, but this does make me miss watching it.

My favorite contestants of all time are Yau-Man Chan from Fiji and Micronesioa, and Ethan Zohn, from Africa (which was my favorite season of all time, I think).
