The Atheist Obsession with Insulting Christians
RE: The Atheist Obsession with Insulting Christians
On top of the format making it difficult to understand tone, you have to remember that there are people from all different cultures here. A friendly jab from one person may come across as a deep insult to another, simply due to the fact that people here are born and raised in different parts of the world.

You have to keep stuff like that in mind when reading people's posts.

Eh, if I got all defensive and upset, I'm sure I'd get some sort of negative remark for that too.

Those are not the only two options. It's not like the whole emotional and intellectual gambit is only politeness and insults. I think sometimes forums make it seem that way, but it's not that case.

How do you genuinely feel about being called a phony? That's what I'd be far more interested in hearing. I'm far more interested in people's honest opinions and feelings about stuff, rather than someone who just attempts to be nice to everybody. Genuineness goes way farther with me than politeness. Jackasses like GodsChild isn't really being genuine either. He's just here to stir the shit. You are sort of the opposite. Just here to leave a good impression. I think I could pretty much predict most of your answers.

Mostly in my real life and in these forums I'm sort of drawn towards interesting people. The more interesting the better. Someone who gives stock answers isn't that interesting to me.

That's true, and also there is a different level of seriousness with which people treat these forums to. For some people getting insulted here is just like it happened in real life. For others it's just the internet and who cares.

Having "good intentions" does not justify, to me, the arrogance of knocking on my door, interrupting my personal time and insinuating to me that I'm a terrible, sinful person that can only rectify my life by joining [XYZ] church.

Neither do "good intentions" justify the double standard, as Jenny mentioned, of a theist feeling in-the-right about attempting to convert an atheist's child and then freaking out when an atheist talks to their child.

Oh I know. I can't say I've ever had anyone knock and say or insinuate I'm a "terrible sinful person" though. But if they did, that'd be a bit worse for sure.

Likewise, I've had Obama supporters come knocking on my door trying to "convert" me to vote for him lol. I disagree with them as well, but I just say "thank you but I'm not interested," because I understand the vulnerable position they are in and can only imagine how much they get chewed out by other people.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Haha. Hey for the record all I said that you don't give me the impression of being phony, which is good. I'll take all the love I can get though.

Yeah, I get that tone doesn't come through via text very easily, so I make a smilie to reassure people I'm not angry/bitter when it's a sensitive topic. Some people don't like it though lol.

Ok Capn, how should I have responded?

Obviously I don't like being called a phony, and I've thoroughly expressed how I feel about it in a different thread that got shut down a couple months ago.  I already told you my "politeness" (which I consider nothing more than normal, human, common courtesy), is true to how I am. People are going to think what they think. I'm not gonna argue with you about how you perceive me. If the fact that I won't do so just "reinforces" my phoniness to you, so be it. Respectfully and no offense, but I have better things to do with my time.
