But it was by some rivers and the artistic impression given is that its more open than a forest, with glades and so on. So I would say it would be more like a wood. Maybe not too big, not too small, perhaps something like a 100 acres.

Yes, that's it 100 Acre Wood!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we finally have solved the mystery.

Christopher Robin is God, Pooh is Adam, and Eve is... erm.... Piglet!

Would Tigger be the serpent?

It just seems that as an all knowing being he would of known they would listen to the snake he put there and eat from the tree.

Obviously I don't believe in a Christian god or the story of Eden, however it just shows another example of god "tricking" people and he himself creating the sin and the reasons we are punished for it. Of course the religious here will say it's all a test and there cant be good without evil and it's all part of learning from our mistakes so we can except god blah blah blah. But I thought it might be worth pointing out yet another ridiculous part of their book.

Also, where is the garden now? Did it fall into dis repair? Did Cherubim just forget to prune the rose bushes? Was god lazy with his lovely garden and should he have got Alan Titchmarsh on the job?

Skipper it's not a snake .... it's now a legless serpant what ever that looks like. Yes God did know that Adam would sin and bring into existance many terrible things. However God did not create sin satan did not create sin, he did allow it to manifest itself in him when he became jealous of God and rebelled against Him. So sin existed before Adam brought it into this world but it never was a creation. Sin is being unlike God in your nature, there is no way that God could have created sin because God's nature never changes.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

The thing I find very interesting about the story of the Garden of Eden is how different god's behavior is from modern christianity.

That is: god is permissive, even to the point of disregarding consequence.

Whereas it could be said that many christians are controlling: making the argument that people must be forced to obey this or that for their own good.
