A trick I learnt from my mom: line a Ziploc baggie with paper towels, enough to line the entire inside of the bag, and then insert your vegetables. Squeeze all the air out before sealing. The paper towels wick condensation away from the vegetable's surface, and that retards spoilage. Seems to help them last 40-50% longer.

Juicing is an amazing way to gain the best of vegetables, and you can make some tasty, super healthy shakes too.

Mine's good enough that the local watering hole asks me to make a couple of pans when they throw a party occasionally -- one with Italian sausage, and one vegetarian.

Canned food is cheaper than fresh always. Not as healthy, not as tasty, not as expensive. Why anyone would want to eat pumpkin canned or otherwise is beyond me. That shit is nasty.

Also, the things in your picture are not pumpkins. Just saying.

Farmer's markets often have great deals, as do dollar stores which sell groceries. Of course, you have to live with blemishes.

I always buy fresh, still, canned is cheaper. Many people don't live near a farmers market and I have never seen a dollar store that sells fresh veggies. Another thing being that it's fucking exhausting to take care of three kids by myself, soon I'll be starting a job to go with that, I would never look down on someone who didn't want to or couldn't take the time to prepare fresh food.

I buy tinned chickpeas, pretty much fresh everything else.
