Empress, is this quote from this thread? If not, that looks to me like you're calling someone out. I am asking so that I don't respond to it and so run foul of that rule.

You can click the green arrow next to individual posts to see where they come from. Incidentally, I'm former staff and I'm well-aware of the rules; the quote is the very last post on the previous page. Not real hard to find.

I missed it somehow and didn't bother to check before expressing my concerns about it. Sorry for that.

Thank you for informing me of that feature, though. I didn't know about it until now. Smile

Calling out only applies to the OP.

Calling out only applies to the OP.

Do you mean Original Poster, or Original Post?

In the rules it's said that you can't create a thread with the intention of calling someone out. It doesn't specifically talk about OPs.
Does that mean you can however call someone out by doing it within a thread(that is not yours/that is yours)?

It means you can't create a thread with the purpose of calling someone out, and then call them out in it.

I could make another post right after this one quoting something you or anyone else hasn't addressed and say "Could you respond to this EP[/whoever else]?" And that would be fine. What I can't do it go and create a thread about someone, unless it's something nice like a "Happy Birthday!" thread or something.

At the moment of conception it is a zygote which has about 20% chances of not surviving naturally.

On the side note ever heard of spontaneous miscarriage sometimes also called spontaneous abortion? It occurs in 15 to 20% of recognized pregnancies so it appear it is god who is biggest abortionist.

You definition is arbitrary too. There is no reason for agreeing with it if someone does not share your views.

Also what about risk for pregnant women? The pregnancy-associated mortality rate among women who delivered live neonates was 8.8 deaths per 100,000 live births. The mortality rate related to induced abortion was 0.6 deaths per 100,000 abortions.* Is their life less valuable than those of fetuses?

@EP, the reason this makes sense is because if "calling out" wasn't limited to the original post of a thread then it would mean replying to anyone's post or addressing anyone specifically (like I'm doing now) would be against the rules. Kinda hard to have a discussion forum if you're not allowed to talk to anyone Tongue

Quote:Because at the moment of conception a brand new set of human DNA is formed. A sperm is just a sex cell from the man's body, it isn't its own separate entity.

To address your last paragraph though, a human fetus begins to feel pain about midway through the second trimester... at least as far as we can tell, though it could be before that. But I don't think the ability to feel pain should be the indicator to being human. If you are comprised of human DNA, you are a biological human being, whether you have the ability to feel pain or not, imho.

What about the body's ability to spontaneously abort? Few chromosomal abnormalities allow for a fetus to survive past a certain point. I would ask you if you find this acceptable and if so, then you would have to agree with abortions. Anyone in the reproductive medical field will tell you that a spontaneous abortion is the medical terminology used when the body miscarries a fetus that has abnormalities that will not allow it to survive on its own. Non-survival isn't always the case, there are some babies who are born with severe defects, but who don't live long after.

Some humans that do survive, face the possibilities of lifelong struggles with their physical and/or mental health. My daughter got lucky and she was born with Down syndrome. Given what we know about DS (or Trisomy 21) we can accurately and confidently say that children born with this can go on to lead active lives.

Others with different chromosomal abnormalities aren't as lucky. They suffer unimaginable pain and may not be able to communicate that pain. So now enters the issue of the following:

If a woman is given accurate genetic testing early on and an abnormality is found, instead of that baby suffering a lifetime of medical issues, it is the mother's right to determine how best to deal with that, and no one else's.

Unless strangers plan on stepping up and providing the money it will cost to care for such a person, they should stay out of it.

Yes, but what I'm having trouble with is, can you quote here something someone posted in another thread?
