KUSA, I know what you're getting at, but your point also ignores the history of the dehumanization of blacks by comparing them to apes. That's really what makes it racist. Otherwise yeah, it would just be a funny picture of Obama looking like a monkey just like it's funny when Bush looks like a monkey. Same thing for blackface: Americans see it as incredibly racist because of it's been used throughout history to make fun of black people, but in the Netherlands it's not seen as big of a deal because the history of blackface there is very different.

If you're unaware of why comparing black people to monkeys is synonymous with a racial slur, you're not worthy of the time it would take to explain it to you.  I'm not hypersensitive at all...I actually find YOUR KIND highly amusing.

I don't agree with anyone posting things comparing people to monkeys - no matter what their color. The fact that no one is making such a big deal about the comparison to ALL races is what I find disturbing. All I'm seeing is posts indicating that people of color are offended but that white people shouldn't be. I'm white and I find the whole thing offensive. Period.

How much longer do we have to apologize for the things that our grandparents and great grandparents did to other members of this society? I didn't do those things and in this day and age, ANYTHING that is aimed at ANYONE, regardless of race, with the intent to hurt that person, is uncalled for.

What's so bad about monkeys anyway? Why would a monkey be offensive to anyone? They are our closest relative and I harbor no ill will towards them.
