This might actually lead to rioting in the streets. The poor cops would be hard-pressed just picking out the minorities to shoot when you had all these nutty old white fucks out there waving their guns around.
Lincoln was also dismissive regarding his candidacy into April. Despite his later achievements in office, Lincoln's and Ryan's situations are fairly similar. I am by no means arguing that Ryan is the next Lincoln, but a brokered convention resulting in a nomination of someone that hasn't yet participated in the nomination process is the only way for the GOP to save face.
The problem for the GOP is that Trump has a legitimate chance of beating Hillary; it's a problem for the GOP because there is no other solution with a reasonable chance and the GOP knows it has no influence over Trump. Trump will drive people to the polls, like it or not. Let's not be naive, when it comes down to it this is the only thing that matters between July and November; policy positions be damned.
Trump is the result of the GOP forcing Sarah Palin on John McCain. Palin's 'stupidity as virtue' gimmick was what gave birth to the Tea Party. The Tea Party then gave us the likes of Ted Cruz. His heroic attempts to shut down the government via fillibuster wasn't good enough for these idiots; enter Trump.
It's well known that all candidates go far right and left during primary season; only to 'pivot' towards the center for the general election. Trump knows there is no way in hell he'll ever get congressional support to build a fucking wall at the southern border, but he'll keep saying it knowing that the Tea Party fucktards will come out en masse to give him votes in the primary.
The twice divorced man with very liberal social views has also bifurcated the religious right. He apparently identified as being a Methodist of some sort, but anyone believing he contemplates God and Jesus on a daily basis are deluded. He's also shrewd in framing the debate in that his 'we can't fuck with medicaid and social security' (GOP kryptonite) doesn't come anywhere near being a debate topic. He's done the same thing with the right's infatuation with abortion. Firmly pro-choice, a long held position I don't think he's given up, has been quoted as saying that he doesn't like anyone getting an abortion. Well, no shit. The man leading the GOP primary has all but told Fox News to go fuck themselves. He was a democrat's wet dream six months ago, but now the possibility of him actually winning the nomination has the left in convulsions.
The reason is that any true rivalry relies on some balance and parity. I'm tired of the whole Trump=Fascism thing. It's born out of fear and not any realistic chance that Trump could turn the U.S. into a fascist state.
He's playing everyone.
