Prometheus lost my interest when Charlize Theron got squashed like a bug.

But in fairness it still remains far from the worst atrocity ever perpetrated upon the franchise of acid blooded chest busters

It's certainly not better than A3. better than A4 maybe, not sure, avoided that nonsense as well ever since it came out.

I found them very enjoyable in my teens, maybe judgment is clouded by nostalgia.

Meh, I thought Sphere was just OK. Maybe in the top 100. Same with Jurassic Park, if it qualifies as sci-fi at all.

It most certainly does, based on  the origin of the critters. "Made monster runs amok" is one of the basic sci-fi movie themes. I mean, look at "Deadpool".

A big problem with Prometheus is that people had very very very high expectations of the movie.  Ridley Scott made it out to be part 2001 and part At the Mountains of Madness, but ultimately it was neither and fell flat.

Bringing in Lindelof was a huge mistake.  He's the guy that you let take the first crack at a script.  Then you bring someone else in to clear the nebulous threads and create a cohesive story.  Lets hope that Alien Covenant is a much better movie.

My top 10

ALIEN
DUNE <--odd movie but I liked it
Original Star Wars Trilogy
Blade Runner
Star Trek II Wrath of Kahn
ALIENS
The Matrix (can throw this in as the trilogy)
The Martian
Children of Men
District 9

Excellent! District 9 yay. I loved the Lynch Dune because while it is not true to the book plot, it is true to the atmosphere - the post computer steampunky aesthetic is fantastic

How about films you'd like to see. I'd like to see the Many Coloured land books made into films.
