Portugal seems a lot like (coastal) California, except that we only very rarely get a hot day (+90 F). Winter likewise usually means 50's, at least at night.

Oh... come the end of the month and daylight saving kicks in... that will make for a depressing week, until people get used to it.
Then, at the peak of gloominess, night will fall by 6pm.... 8am and it's still a bit dark out...
Roughly the same latitude as New York does this sort of thing....

I never get over it.
