Yes, because evolutionarily that has resulted in fewer reproductive opportunities.
But the energetic function of gender is much deeper than the physical expression in bodies. All self aware souls can both receive/hold information (female) as well as express/project information (male). No woman is 100% female just as no man is 100% male. Unless you consider the X chromosome to be somehow indicative of "female" then women are twice female and men are half female. 
There are negative and positive expressions of both. What we are seeing in America's election is the competition between both negative expressions.
