I would suggest that the best thing we can do to help him with his little problem is to give him no attention at all when he makes obvious phoney gestures like this. Some people want attention any way they can get it, and prefer negative attention to none. The behaviour continues while the response continues.

Just a thought of course, I'm not telling anyone what to do.
