New religious cult in rise?

New religious cult in rise?
This just popped up in my youtube feed. Its about some new crazy religious cult called "neuro-spinozism" . They are believing in some "God of Logic" and talking about disconnecting from emotions. Its like they are trying to become robots!? Looks like utter brainwashing to me. They are also convincing themselves that Einstein and Sagan believed in this, lol they were obviously atheists!

Here is the video, its ridiculous and scary at the same time...

Don't have time to watch it because I'm at work, but there's a paradox with emotions. You need irrational emotional biases in order to act rationally. This is called the framing problem. If you can't arbitrarily decide between two equal choices you'll end up thinking through a myriad of possibilities. The neurosurgeon Antonio Damasio describes a patient with emotional impairment acting like this in his book Descartes Error when the patient is given a choice of two different days for his next appointment.

Ironically emotions are actually quite rational, you just have to understand them in the right context. For example, in a committed relationship with a jealous partner, they may act seemingly irrationally to any hint of infidelity, but in evolutionary terms this would stop any partner from being tempted to be unfaithful and may help them stick around and help raise the child.

It's understood that cognition generally widens the range of choices available to an agent while emotions narrow them. You don't want to be considering how tasty the grass might be if you've just heard the squawk of a predator for example, you want to make fleeing your priority over everything else. Doing otherwise would be quite irrational.

I'm not sure if I agree with the cult label, but was turned off by the idea of humanity as super organism. Much of the packaging left me with the impression that this is nothing more than new-age spirituality with technology at its core.

If I ignore this and consider the elements that I do find intriguing I am compelled to conclude this as an attempt to find a short circuited path to a rudimentary form of stoicism in an effort to replicate the neurological response/condition that religion provides. Far better in my opinion to actually teach stoic principles.

This smells so much like a viral marketing shtick for an upcoming movie or something similar. The way it's delivered, the way the guys in the vid look and speak, the graphics...

It only looks hokey like a cult (scientology reloaded, from what we see here) because it's low budget.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I laugh at the idea that our little conscious minds will unmoor themselves from the emotions and any other instances of consciousness below in order to take off on a voyage of discovery into a new day. Watched less than a minute but that all the speakers were young guys was telling.

It really reads like a scientology ripoff, if you exchange the word subconscious with Hubbards reactive mind and "a state of clarity" by "the state of clear", it's kind of the same thing.

Nonsense.

There exists brain based artificial intelligence, that exceeds human performance in cognitive tasks, absent emotion's necessitation: http://singularityhub.com/2015/11/11/exp...ng-cancer/
