Best just to wait for your 30 days and 30 posts to accrue.  Let's keep the spam filter happy.

Well your second sentence in that paragraph proves your first sentence (and 3 to 4 hours? I was tearing my hair out before even 1 had elapsed!) Parents shouldn't indoctrinate their children or waste their time going to places to reinforce their misguided beliefs which would cause their children to need to be without them for that long on a regular basis. Beyond that, are there no such things as babysitters or other wholesome non-religious activities that children can be taken to while their parents are out doing whatever it may be? Sunday school is not a positive alternative if it's still reinforcing the same ideologies and stories their parents are getting. That's how you get fooled into thinking that Noah's Ark isn't a story about indiscriminate global genocide.
It just strikes me as, like the name says, astonishing that this goes over people's heads in such a spectacular fashion. Like there is literally no other valid way of doing anything. Closed-minded doesn't even begin to describe it adequately.

Ok, cool, thanks for your input.

What I've never understood is why fundamentalists are convinced that the correct way to read the bible is as a contract between men and god. Otherwise, why take every small detail literally? There are lots of other ways to use the written word. To read the bible allegorically can yield a few good bits, though granted you have navigate large tracts of begetting and other sleep inducing passages. But to read every word as applying in this moment to whatever ails you .. that's just ridiculous.

Landover Baptists is a spoof site but you aren't the first to think they were genuine as Poe's Law applies.

It's all in your head.

I remember hearing something about a guy bombing a abortion clinic but thats about it? Oh and I have heard arguments attributing the salem witch trials to Christians. Am I missing any?

My god man! You're further down the rabbit hole than I'd first imagined!

I don't think you quite understand my point. There is a way you can easily take the Bible out of context. Just as our friend a few posts up has done. You have to take everything in context with the chapter. Else you could use it to craft almost any narrative you want. And there are some bits of the Bible that are very important, Take the gospels for example they were deemed so important that the same event was recorded by four different people.

What im trying to say is that if I were to believe in God and angels, and ignore what the Bible says about satan and lucifer I would be a hypocrite. And I do also like to look in between the lines. There is a passage in genesis that says, paraphrasing of course, The sons of God saw the daughters of men beautiful and mated with them. I mean that is amazing, is it talking about interspecies mating with angles and humans? Or did God create multiple strands/ or tribes of humans to give a decent sized gene pool. Sorry I get excited about these types of things But yea, lets get back on topic.

However I do believe spanking is mandatory, however not in the way described. It should never be done out of anger, and never hard enough to leave any marks. The Child chould first be sat down, calmed, then explained what they did wrong and why. Open palm is accross the buttox best, but my parents had a wooden paddle they used, it looks kinda like a vegetable chopping block. If you have ever played multiplayer on call of duty or games like that, kids these days do need to be disciplined.

Forcing children to sit through long, boring, sometimes horrifying church sessions.

Telling children they're wicked, dirty, evil, etc.

Hearing them tell you 'You can't change my mind'. The arrogance!

Teaching them that love is conditional. Way to warp their mentality for life.

Managing to be seemingly deluded about how awful people can treat others in the name of their faith. Sickening ignorance.

Seriously, read a book like God is Not Great. Hitchens is much more eloquent than most.

Yes I am compleatly ignorant of this world, I have no life experience and you shouldn't listen to anything I say. Now do you believe parents should leave their Children behind at home for a good three or four hours? There is sunday school for a reason. And Hitchens is painful to listen to I mean when I hear his monotone speeches it feels like my eye is going to fall out. And no I don't understand why hearing someone speak makes my eyes ache lol.

I would like to hear of your negative experiences with Christians. I would also like if possible you clarify what denomination they come from.

The only thing I can think of aside from the usual online apologist's motivated insincerity and condescension is something that happened when I attended my father's Methodist church with him as a young adult, probably between 25 and 28.

I did it for him as I knew it was important to him even though I had no shred of belief in his god.  I went along with everything, making rationalizations to myself as to what it all meant to the people there and looking for ways to relate to those goals myself.  It all went well until some general back and forth started up about missionaries the church was supporting, probably intended to elicit still more giving.  Finding an opportunity to speak up, I asked if it was really necessary for the whole world to put on a tie and sit in a pew on Sundays.  I went on to say I thought it was fine for them to do it, but wouldn't the world be a poorer place if everyone set aside their own customs to do the same.

That didn't go over very well.  The pastor guy asked someone what he'd do if he had a snake in his midst.  He'd keep a watch on it, he answered.  So inspire of my best efforts to give my father what he wanted and be respectful to these people who mattered to him, I was still just a snake to them.  Something dangerous and probably of 'satan'.  This didn't feel too good because I was honestly trying to be respectful myself while offering criticism in a measured way.

Hope that helps.
