So then everyone will know how stupid the people in these groups are, and how much smarter WE are! And, and, and... while we're at it, let's spell their title wrong too!! Wink

I certainly have had my fair share of stupid moments (IMO, fantastic ones) ; it is interesting to wonder how many people observed my stupid moments in specific contexts and then generalized them into a negative image of me in all contexts (how many people do this to each other?); thus, reinforcing whatever biases, beliefs, and stereotypes that they hold.  Perhaps resisting the tendency to broadly categorize groups of people based on one's particular experiences/via hearsay, is a strong mark of intelligence, as it is indicative of an open, thinking mind; IMO, it is certainly an important/intelligent skill to have in the realm of intercultural relations.

Someone's stupid actions based solely on their irrational worldview, which they would never do if not indoctrinated to look at the world in that way, though, VASTLY different circumstances. If you have no reason to be motivated in the direction of something in the vein of, say, holding up the kind of signs the Westboro Baptist Church does, well, you're not going to behave stupidly in that specific way. Again, this is kind of nuanced but makes a significant distinction.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

RE: Stupid Christians
I don't think it behooves us to criticize Christians en masse like this, as it has been stated it does perpetuate a negative stereotype of atheists. Were it the thoughts or claims of one particular theist or theistic organization, that would be different; but this seems more like a roast than a discussion.

RE: Stupid Christians
I wonder how the forum would react to a Stupid Atheist thread.

That just shows to go you how stupid they can be, then. Their delusional thinking is based on a factual commonality, and anything thrown at any non-believer group by them is based on further delusions of theirs. Even if we are the most morally upstanding folk, they're still going to talk shit because their book says we are incapable of being good and have Satan up our anuses puppeting us around, so why the fuck should we not call them out on their bullshit? They may not want to hear it but first off, fuck them, and second, maybe hearing that they're full of shit might clue them in.

True but atheists are stupid not in the name of atheism. Christians however are stupid in a way that is specific to Christianity.

When someone calls you "stupid", do you stop what you're doing and say, "You know, you might be right -- I'll get on that right away!"? No, you say "Fuck off" and move on.

If you're really concerned with "cluing someone in", calling them stupid doesn't strike me as a very smart way of going about your business. Of course, you're not really interested in that, because as you yourself said, "first off, fuck them". It does strike me as self-congratulatory masturbation: look at that fuckhead -- jeez, he's so stupid.

I've got Christians in my family who could clearly run circles around your dusty little brain. What they believe or don't believe doesn't speak to their intelligence. Perhaps you should look up the phenomenon of compartmentalization.

Um yeahhh... I don't think that'll do anything except make them think you're a jerk and give off a bad impression of atheists. Just a hunch...
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
