Emotions are intrinsically good and bad
RE: Emotions are intrinsically good and bad

Let me try again.  This is yet another new argument:

Brief Description Of My Worldview:  I am going to give a very brief description of my worldview which is just a couple of paragraphs.  Good and bad are commonly viewed as things on the "outside" such as it being a good thing to help others or it being a bad thing to harm others.  But my worldview directs good and bad inward.  That is, my worldview focuses on our inner universe rather than the outer universe since it is our inner universe which is so precious and vital.  After all, our inner universe (mental reality) is the very thing that allows us to see good and bad value in our lives in the first place.  Without our inner universe, then we would either be dead, unconscious, or just non sentient machines.  Your life could be a beautiful and luxurious paradise on the outside.  But as long as your inner universe is completely empty and meaningless, then your life would be empty and meaningless.

None of those fancy and luxurious things would be anything good in your life at all.  So, instead of good and bad being these mere concepts or ideas that we focus on, they would instead be our own inner light and inner darkness (our positive and negative emotions).  Therefore, I think introverts had it right all along rather than extroverts.  After all, it's what's on the inside that truly matters.  As long as you have the inner light, then things on the outside would be good in your life and your life would be beautiful.  As long as you have the inner darkness, then your life would be shit.  When I say that your life would either be beautiful or shit or that things are good or beautiful in your life, then what I mean by that is simply the fact that, again, your inner universe would be something beautiful or shit which would make everything on the outside perceived as beautiful or shit.

I see.

I think instead of saying "emotions are intrinsically good or bad," perhaps you could say, "good and bad are intrinsically emotional."

Do you think people, by controlling their emotions, can determine whether life is good or bad? Certainly, I'd say much of the religious tradition focuses on that, and that part of it gets lost under the child abuse, the goofy God ideas, and so on.

My Worldview Also Has Spiritual/Religious Implications:  I am undecided when it comes to the existence of god, the paranormal, the soul, and the afterlife.  But I keep an open mind to these things and I really hope the eternal blissful afterlife of my dreams exists since this would literally be the greatest and most profound life to me since it would offer me the greatest and most profound degree of my inner light.  I am here in this life to be happy and to enjoy my life.  Thus, it would be quite unfortunate if I just died and that is it.  Especially after all the horrible misery I have struggled through in my life.  It would be quite unfortunate for all of us.  But like I was saying, if we do live in a spiritual universe where the soul, god, and the afterlife exists, then god's holy light energy would literally be a quality of pure goodness, love, joy, happiness, and beauty within our conscious being.

After all, that is what the light energy of god is.  It is literal goodness, love, joy, happiness, and beauty itself.  Many people deny the existence of an actual quality of good and bad since most people think that good and bad are instead concepts or ideas.  That is, nothing but words.  But I think good and bad are something much more profound and powerful than that.  I think they go beyond words.  I think that having good and bad value in our lives is something that goes beyond words.  That is, I think it is an actual quality rather than just a mere idea going through our minds.  Good would have to be an actual quality like water.  So, in order to have good value in your life, then that would be no different than needing actual water rather than just believing you have water in your life when you don't.  But continuing on here.  God's light energy of pure goodness within us would actually be our positive emotions rather than that of a saved sinner repenting to Jesus lest he be cast eternally into a lake of fire.

In other words, us being happy, having fun, and enjoying our lives is the light energy of god we need in our lives to truly make our lives good, beautiful, and worth living for.  Without his holy light, then our lives are empty.  It would be like being deprived of the sacred water of pure goodness in our lives.  That, or we would be filled with spiritual darkness of pure badness, hate, misery, and despair.  Now, if we are living in a purely naturalistic/secular universe where the soul, god, and the afterlife do not exist, then everything I have said would still apply.  In other words, our positive emotions would still be the quality of goodness we need in our lives.  But, this time, there would be no god, afterlife, or soul attached.  This would even mean that atheists and skeptics, if this is truly the one and only life we have to live, cannot live good lives through the helping of others, self sacrifice, and making the world a better place as long as they were not happy, having fun, and enjoying doing so.

Lastly, I would call my worldview New Age Hedonism since it combines new age spiritual concepts with hedonism.  New age spirituality is the idea of a god who would never condemn us to an eternal hell.  This would be a truly all loving god who just wants us to be happy.  Although, there are dark spiritual forces in this universe such as bad karma that takes away the inner light we need in our lives.  So, it is up to us to avoid these dark forces and be as happy as possible.  One of these dark forces would obviously be having a depressive mental illness.  As long as you are someone who struggles with depression, then your life and conscious being is devoid of god's inner holy light and you would either have a very small degree of his light or none of his light at all.  Thus, your life would have little to no good value.  My own personal struggles with depression and misery in my life has led me to this worldview.  It would be my own personal created religion.

A religion made by you, for you. Can't argue with or ask for any proof since it's personal only to you.

But I think a better approach is to seek truth, not hope for the desired scenario and have faith that your best wishes will come true.

My personal experience is so powerful and profound that it literally makes all other values out there seem fake.  When my whole entire mental atmosphere feels a certain way such as joyful or the most miserable and hopeless, then that is not just some trivial feeling.  It is literally like my whole entire reality is either a paradise filled with goodness, love, joy, and beauty or an absolute hell filled with badness, suffering, despair, hate, and misery.  In other words, it is as though I am a soul in different spiritual realms.  My soul would need to be in the realm of the light and that can only come about through me being in a fully recovered state from any misery and hopelessness in my life.

The absolute worst dark realms are the forms of misery due to emotional traumas.  Other forms of misery such as feeling bummed out since I did not get to go to my favorite movies would just be completely normal and healthy forms of the darkness in my life.  It wouldn't be hell, but it would still be some bad value in my life.  This means that the inner light and the inner darkness take on different qualities of good and bad.  The light and darkness can either be of the most trivial quality of good and bad or they can be of the most powerful and profound quality of good and bad in your life.

I am actually going to point out that quote by the intelligent skeptic/neuroscientist again:

Quote:Emotions are value judgments too. If they weren't, humanity would not be distinct from other mammals; we would be biological machines with no autonomy, acting purely on instinct. For example, if you are physically hurt, and the doctor treating you causes you pain during treatment, do you become angry and bite him? No, because you are able to override your instinctive anger and fear at someone causing you pain with your ability to reason that the treatment is necessary and the pain is temporary. But a dog can't reason, and will bite to stop the person causing the pain. Both the instinctive emotions AND the reasoned thoughts are value judgments.

Therefore, since our positive emotions are always emotional value judgments of good value and our negative emotions always being emotional value judgments of bad value, since emotions themselves are actual qualities (things that exist such as water, food, electricity, etc.), then positive emotions would have to be a quality of good and negative emotions would have to be a quality of bad.  This means that good and bad are actual things that exist rather than just ideas or concepts.  You could either have the concept or idea of water in your mind or you could have actual water just as how you could either have the idea or concept of good and bad in your mind or actual good and bad in your life.

The reasoned thoughts themselves would, thus, give your life no real good or bad value just as how the thought of water would not give you actual water.  Therefore, when I have struggled with all of those miserable moments in my life and I said they were horrible, that was not just my way of looking at it.  It literally was the most horrible state of my life.  Furthermore, when I said that there was no good value in my life during those horrible times, that was not just my attitude either.  I literally had no good value in my life during these moments.

Who is taking care of you in the world? It's apparent to me that you can't care for yourself.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

I am a functioning adult and I am able to take care of myself just fine.  I live with my mother and everything is going fine in my life.  Now, there are negative numbers, there is the number zero, and then there are positive numbers.  If I just presented my worldview as a simple statement or supported it with weak arguments, then everyone would look at my worldview as being complete nonsense.  That is, my worldview would be at the negative stage.  But by presenting strong arguments to support my worldview and that putting others in a position where they don't deem it as nonsense, but demand evidence to support my claim and/or them really wondering if my claim could be true, then that would move my worldview onto the next level.  It would now be at stage zero.

Finally, by having my claim tested out in a lab and my claim/worldview having actual evidence to support it, then that would move my worldview onto the final stage which would be the positive stage.  This is the stage where people should be convinced of my worldview.  Basically, what I am doing here is slowly and gradually moving my worldview up the ladder.  As for now though, stage zero is better than a negative stage which means that, as long as my worldview is at stage zero, then that makes my worldview more valid than being complete bull crap.  Stage zero would have others taking deep consideration into my needs rather than dismissing them as nonsense.  People think that the very idea of my positive emotions being the inner light to my life is nonsense and I just want to prove them wrong or, at least, put them in a position where they don't just simply dismiss it as nonsense.

It's because it makes things much more convenient for me.  Lastly, psychologists often divide emotions into two categories:  intrinsically positive and intrinsically negative (i.e. feeling good and feeling bad).  I have every reason to think this division is true based upon my own personal experience.  After all, positive and negative, good and bad, light and darkness is a well known concept in many movies, anime, artwork, etc.  Feeling good and feeling bad is an actual quality of good and bad.
