I'm a big James Bond fan, both the books and the films. One thing, though, strikes me as tragically stupid - when the evil mastermind bent on world domination wants to get rid of Bond, why not just shoot him and be done with it?? But no, it always comes down to shark tanks with slowly receding lids, or Bond being tied to a table with a laser getting closer and closer to his fun zone or something of the sort.
I get that if Bond was killed, it wouldn't do a helluva a lot to advance the story, but it's a ridiculous plot device for the villain to get Bond into a situation that really does nothing more than give Our Hero time to formulate his Clever Escape.

I actually really like it the whole sell the soul to the devil thing.
I know it's super silly but so is the rest of religion, fantasy and a lot of science fiction.
It just entertains me.
And you think people aren't stupid enough to ever do such a thing if they could? Think again! In the words of George Carlin: PEOPLE ARE REALLY FUCKING STOOPID. You think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.
Hell, I'd rather sell my soul to the devil than God if given the choice. So if I have a soul and God owns my soul and God and Satan are the only two beings powerful enough to own my soul... I'd give it to Satan in a heartbeat. Satan is clearly misrepresented in the Bible as the most evil being of all when that's very clearly God and whilst Satan is clearly a muderous asshole he's clearly far, far, far more morally good (or morally less evil) than God is. It's like the difference between a serial killer and a genocidal maniac.
I mean, this alone shows Satan is better than God:
And that's just one example of why God is more evil.
And here's one of my favorite songs about buying a soul:

I may or may not have already told the devil he can have my soul in exchange for me achieving all my goals when I was a kid
I was joking because I've never believed in anything supernatural including Satan: but I told Satan that if he does exist he should take me seriously.

Boru And the villain always wastes time explaining his plan and of course it always bites him in the ass.

Not only do these people apparently not recognize something that oozes evil, but the whole concept of the devil bartering for souls is a bit off. According to christianity, souls go to hell by default. The only people who would be willing to go along with a devil are non christians, so what's the angle here? according to a lot of christians, just going back to sin and breaking the rules will send a would-be christian to hell. even though Jesus doesn't say that. So all a devil would really need to do is keep people from worshiping a blood and death obsessed psychopath. That shouldn't be hard.

Back in the day I'd of rubbed Barbara Eden all day long, backfire or not.
And Darrin, dead, both of them.

Yeah, I never figured out why Tony seemed to not want Jeannie around. Fuck being an astronaut, I got a smoking hot magic chick who can get me whatever I want. Tony was a fuckwit.

I'd sell my soul to a devil that looked like this:

You know what's worse?
When the bad guy asks the scientist how long it's going to take to do what he needs done. The scientist tells him, just for example, 2 hours. Then the bad guy says "You have 1."
What if the scientist had said "4 hours". Is he going to expect the scientist to do it in 2 hours, or is he going to give him 1 hour to do something that normally takes 4 hours. If your plan absolutely requires something, maybe you shouldn't wait until the last minute to get it done. What if he said "8 hours". Or "16" would he have just shot scientists until someone was like "I can do it in 2 hours!"
"Tradition" is just a word people use to make themselves feel better about being an asshole.
