I don't, like, see the problem with it, like, it just makes me sound more, like, informal, like.

My mom, who turns 70 in a couple weeks, doesn't distinguish texting and emailing.  And it's dismaying because she's used a computer for 30+ years.  It's not like she's computer illiterate.  But she'll say "Did you get that email I sent you?" when she means 'text' and vice versa.

I have to admit, I don't get binge watching.  Do people really just sit around and watch 3, 4, 5 hours of a streamed show at a time?

I don't mind rap but I don't like rap music. A little rapping on some electronic tracks or in some rock songs can work sometimes. But rap music itself is absolutely terrible.

Ever heard Russian white boys try to rap?  Big Grin

One person told me "To be fair, the term means 'rhythm and poety'."  "No, ma'am, it means to lay down a line of bullshit."

(I was going to post a youtube of "The Rapper", a slam song about guys who do that very thing, from the '60s. But I couldn't wade through all the other references to "Rapper" that got in ahead of it.)

And never use idiotic phrases like, "double down."

And never, NEVER use replacement cuss-words. There is no such word as, "arse" or "shite" - at least not in American English. For fuck's sake, if you're going to cuss, then CUSS!
"Double down" is a betting term used in black jack. You show confidence in your hand by doubling your bet.
This one? Though I suspect not. And what young person has seen a record like this? Big Grin

If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

That's more from my generation of 90s teenagers.  These days it's starting sentences with "So" or "Alright, so" and also adding the "like" in there.

For example What work did you do before this? "So, before this I was like a gardener....."  Is it tough being a gardener?  "Alright, so just let me say gardening is the like the hardest job you can do..."

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Both of my sons start nearly every sentence with "apparently". The older one puts "lol" on every single text. Both of those things drive me batty.

Apparently older people don't know how to admit their own faults and not turn this thread into just bashing on young people.

I'm plenty faulty and no one is bashing on young people. If you think that, then the same thing could be said of those bashing old people on the other thread.

Guys, is this what religious schisms are like? They share similar core values but emphasize the minor differences to differentiate themselves?
