Plus the custom made uniforms, dress uniforms, the extra time learning parade drill, fuel costs for driving at 2mph through DC, infrastucture costs for viewing stands.

Parades are big business.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the French actually has a military history to brag about.   It’s been a while, but They’ve actually won many times against the best efforts of powers or coalitions that were their equals or superiors.

Also not to put too fine a point on it, the United States does not.

We’ve never confronted the full power of any real peer power and won.  Ever.

When we won we were usually the biggest bully by some substantial margin that came late to a brawl of other smaller bullies who were already dazed from clubbing eachother over the heads.

Or else we are outsmarted by clever Asians or Muslims even as we thump our chests.

France can honor her military this way because honestly, were it for the French feats of arms on many occasions during the last 1000 years there would be no France today.

The only time when America’s Existence really depended on American feat of arms it was the French fleet that largely supplied the necessary feat of arms.
